Ecobank In The News For The Wrong Reasons Again,As Battle With Ex Workers Shift To Court

There seems to be no let off between the management of Ecobank Transnational Plc and some of its disengaged staff as the battle shifts to the National Industrial Court on November 20th 2013.

According to a press release sent to CKN Nigeria by the aggrieved staff of the Bank, this has become the last resort since the Bank has turned a deaf ear to all their demands which includes payment of their disengagement allowances and other benefits.

The former staff ,mostly from the defunct Oceanic Bank Plc said they have been shortchanged by the new management team of the Bank.

All efforts to make the management team of the Bank to see reasons with them has fell on deaf ears ,hence the resort to the court.

The ex members of staff will be storming the court at 31 Lugard Avenue ,Ikoyi in their thousands for the court proceedings.

Ecobank Plc has in recent been in the news for the bad reasons.

Earlier in the year , most staff of the Bank accused the management of slavery as they were denied of their weekends like staff of other Banks.

The Bank is also under investigation for the manipulation of its annual reports by the Banking regulatory authorities in Nigeria, a situation that led to the resignation of its Chairman recently

  1. When you buy over a company, you have also bought over the assets and liability. This is a contributory staff savings deducted from the former staff salaries, it is their rights that is being denied. It must be paid back !

  3. Ecobank should tell us the reason why they paid some members of staff their SSITF upon exit and left some unpaid? SSITF was a savings contribution deducted from our basic salary on a monthly basis that upon exit same will be given to us. Also where is the Money Amcon paid on the account? Like a colleague said it is our right so Eco kindly pay us. U can't buy all assets and neglect d liabilty- it is not trite.

  4. The era of corporate recklessness and impunity should be brought to an end. I hope the industrial court will dispense justice in this case. I know Ecobank is afraid to pay the huge sums bcos all the staff of d erstwhile Oceanic bank will be involved, but as said, it is their money, not an ex gratia payment. Equity demands that they are refunded their hard earned savings!

  8. But I think taking the case to high court will be more better and faster than the industrial court. This might take longer time and d bank might even ignore it.
