Justice Ali Andeyantso of the High Court in Jalingo,
Taraba State, on Monday for the third time, adjourned the case filed by
Governor Danbaba Suntai against the Speaker of the state House of Assembly,
Haruna Tsokwa and the Taraba State House of Assembly till October 28, to
enable parties settle out of court, just as crisis between supporters of
ailing Governor Danbaba Suntai and the acting governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, was
averted at the court premises.
Lead counsel for Governor Suntai, Dr
Alex Izinyon, whose brief was held by E.A. Nyaro requested the court to defer
its ruling and adjourn the case by three weeks to enable parties in the suit
explore ways of resolving the matter out of court.
“Even though, the matter was
adjourned for ruling, I have instruction from the lead counsel to apply that
the ruling be deferred and adjourned by about three weeks. This is because the
parties to this suit are exploring ways of an amicable resolution of the matter
out of court,” he said.
Reacting, counsel for Tsokwa,
Yusufu Akirikwen, said he did not object to the application of amicable
resolution of the matter out of court as submitted by the plaintiff’s counsel.
Similarly, counsel for the state
assembly, A.O. Adelodun, did not object to the application of settling the
matter out of court, saying that his client was in support of any step that
will bring peace to the state.
After listening to all the parties,
Justice Andeyantso said though, the ruling was ready, he had to defer it and
adjourn the matter as agreed by all the parties.
“I have no option than to allow the
parties explore a peaceful and amicable resolution of the matter. What every
citizen needs and indeed the nation, is peace,” he added.
