The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took another
dimension on Friday as Senator Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan alleged that the Federal
Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will today, barring any change in
plan, demolish her multi-million naira park and events centre located at
Maitama, Abuja.
After an initial 21-day notice, the Department of Development Control, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), on Thursday, served A-Class Park, owned by the senator, another 48-hour demolition notice which expires today.
AMMC, in the first notice, dated September 26, 2013, said A-Class Management Services Limited, the owners of the park, failed to comply with an initial quit notice, hence the event centre, covering about three hectares of land, would be demolished in accordance with Section 2 of the Nigerian Urban and Regional Planning Law of 1992.
The senator, who represents Taraba North Senatorial District in the Senate on the PDP platform, said she had not contravened any urban and regional law, adding that she was only being persecuted by the PDP leadership for belonging to the Alhaji Kawu Baraje-led group in the party.
Senator Al-Hassan disclosed to newsmen in Abuja, on Friday, that the PDP, led by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, had threatened to deal with members of the Baraje-led group.
“I am making this statement to give the real facts and documentary evidence of the status of the -Class Park, its location at the Maitama Transit Way, the Demolition Notice issued to A-Class Park by the FCTA and the real reason for the demolition, contrary to what the FCTA tells the world,” she said.
