There are over 1,000,000 (One Million ) Nigerians living in UK so said Mr.
Peter Carter , British Deputy High Commissioner while speaking on Channels TV Sunrise
Daily ,this morning..Why do we have many of our best brains and youths moving
abroad instead of staying at home for Nation building? .some are even resorting
to hide in the belly and tyres of planes to achieve their aims. Is it lack of
faith in the system or just adventure ,that lead most of them engage in menial
jobs that belittles their status, some of the jobs they dare not engage in at
home. Graduates are now bouncers at clubs and restaurants in Europe and America. Others are
security men, while some sweep streets and wash gutters ..So we are asking ,why
would a Nigerian resort to staying abroad and doing menial jobs rather than
come home to engage in meaningful productions?

Which meaningful production many Nigerians no longer see this country as home
ReplyDeleteMove to niger, somali or syria. If you don't see nigeria as home. They are also abroad
DeleteLack of job opportunities and Insecurity even if any
ReplyDeleteWen work nor dey for them inside their country nko? Instead wey dem go dey their country suffer like dat them no go move? Wetin u say make dem do?
ReplyDeleteMost menial jobs abroad pay better than "so called white collar jobs" in Nigeria. Also, healthcare,Education, security, housing etc are far more better abroad than the shambolic system we have in Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteMost masters degree holders Abroad, who are cab drivers are far better than most bankers in Nigeria.
Such jobs abroad are degrading no doubt, but is there any alternative back home?
You keep hearing, come back home and invest, yet the conditions back home are deteriorating by the day.
No security, lack of infrastructure, lack of developmental policies, corruption, mediocrity etc.
Until those at the helm of affairs create a vision for Nigeria,The brain drain as we see today will continue unabated.
I disagree with you! Which cab driver? Where in UK or US? Please don't mislead people
Delete' jare' . Have been there or is just a hear say! Do see where those doing menial jobs live? 20 guys living in one bedroom apartment some sleep in their cab or even outsite.
What ever they do abroad is absolutely nobody's business.the harsh condition in Nigeria pushed dem outta d country so if our country cannot create job opportunities Nigerians will av 2 go elsewhere 4 greener pasture.most of our graduates are unemployed yet our leaders kip stealing public funds dey are being paid huge amount of moni 4 doin notin sittin at d national assembly talkin rubbish makin noise.no stable electricity in Nigeria till date its so disheartning its a shame.haba!!
DeleteIs rather unfoturnate! Nigerian stuation is not as bad as others are taking it. In my own opinion, there are more optunities here in Nigria its our mentality of "ogbodo oyinbo". Some realised d reality over there is because of shame that makes them stay. They don't want to come home with nothing while there is high expectation from relatives. I have been there and talked with a lot of them. They want to come back home but fear of expection hold them there. And one will proudly tell you he cleans guter over there.
ReplyDeleteCKN ,i have asked this same question several times..You need to visit Europe and America and see how some of these people are constituting nuisance to themselves.
ReplyDeleteI Know of a Nigerian that sold his house In Nigeria to travel to America, guess what he is doing there, driving cabs..Can you beat that
ReplyDeleteSome people are just being lazy, they believe the streets of London and America are painted in gold..When they get there ,they know better
ReplyDeleteWhere are the jobs, how many Nigerians are gainfully employed at home?
ReplyDeleteU and I knw that stayin is miserable as our leaders have made it. God will help us o
ReplyDeleteIts not their fault, you will do same if you are in their shoes
ReplyDeleteYou mean we have over 1,000,000 Nigerians in UK,whaooo that is almost the population of several county in UK
ReplyDeleteThings are getting better at home, let them come back and join in Nation building..We just privatized PHCN etc
ReplyDeleteWats gettin better?u see d problem with we Nigerians is dat we are unrealistic.tins are gettin worse goddamit!!!! Phcn privatized or not its stil not servin its purpose.light no dey na abi no b naija u dey?
DeleteJoin which nation building? Where will they get the stamina from when for 5-10 yrs after school no job. I have some of them.
ReplyDeleteThere is absolutely nothing to come home to do.
ReplyDeleteWhere there are problems, there is opportunity too for those who know how to solve the problems. Nigeria is a land full of opportunities.
ReplyDeleteyes Nigeria is a land of opportunities, Nigeria is a wealthy country but the wealth is being monopolized by few people. The riches are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer. Graduates can not get job. Those who get job are not well paid. Indian and Lebanese see our country as the land of opportunity a land of cheap labor and big profit. while should anybody want to stay here and remain poor forever.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely nothing to come home to do stay there for ever if you have the chance, if u come back to Nigeria you will surely regret it as you will get nothing doing and going back may not be possible
ReplyDeleteomo, bros i abeg pray for wisdom and use the money here so it will not be destroy.the money can start something at home.some lifes are ruin yonda.many live in agony abroad oooo.i don witness am. But it all depend.shalom!
