The commission is apparently worried that the road project
would not be completed before the burial of Oba scheduled for the end of the
month.
Speaking with journalists shortly after inspecting the
projects, the acting Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Christy Atako, expressed
displeasure at the extent of work done on the Igbiri-Oba Link road in Okrika
Local Government Area of Rivers State, which was awarded since 2009.
Atako said: “That project was awarded in 2009, it is made
up of four bridges, and I didn’t see any work going on, there is nothing
significant to justify the money paid to the contractor.”
She said the commission had also stepped up work on the
Borokiri-Okrika road and bridges, which when completed, would link the Old Port
Harcourt township to communities in Okrika Island of the state.
She said the six-kilometre asphaltic concrete
Igbiri-Abam-Abibo-Oba link road has four bridges, and 2.5 kilometre concrete
drains with cross section of 600x600mm, while the 3.65 kilometre
Okrika–Borikiri road has three bridges connecting Kolabi, Abotoru and Okpoka
creeks to Port Harcourt.
