A Nigerian, New York bound passenger of Arik Air, Mr Akin Akinremi has threatened to sue the airline
over a botched flight to United States of America.
A fuming Mr Akinremi who spoke with CKN Nigeria said
for four good days, Arik Air could not fly him to New York where he was
scheduled to attend a very important conference.
According to him, his flight which was scheduled to
depart Lagos on Friday 10th October 2013, but Arik without any prior
information, cancelled the flight and lodged the passengers in a hotel for four
days making him lose the opportunity of attending the conference.
He has therefore vowed to sue the airline.
These are the correspondence between Mr Akinremi and
Arik Air as well as his partners in the USA

I am sincerely not interested in ever flying Arik again. So
forget about looking forward. Same sentiments echoed by scores of stranded n
frustrated passengers. Some even swore to rather die than use Arik air.
I have left the airport and your HQ office since you refused to provide the letter I requested.
I am not going back to the airport where the saucy and brash station manager-Ayomike would be insulting passengers.
Send it to your Ikoyi office and I would get someone pick it up, else the status quo remains and you would hear from my solicitors for damages claim.

It has taken you over 3-hours to acknowledge an email (not until
I came banging on your office!)!..what a way to be customer centric! I am still
waiting at your reception after 1-hour and yet no one and I repeat no one has
come to see me from your customer service desk.
If this is not callous, insensitive and disgraceful to the pride of Nigeria, I don't know what it should be.
I would leave here by 1pm if I still don't get anyone to attend to me and you will be hearing from my solicitors in due course to demand for damages and restitution.

Good day Arik Sir,
you got your New York passengers stranded (and hoarded in a hotel) the airport since Friday October 11, 2013 till today without a word from you. my conference started yesterday and ends on Wednesday morning. The conference fee (costlier than the ticket fee) is as good as gone, same for connecting flights already paid for.
I know the airline too has incurred losses, I would therefore not be requesting for damages or reimbursement of the conference fee and connecting flights arrangements previously made. what I am requesting for is a letter acknowledging the flight delay was from the airline's end. I hope to present this to the conference organizers, perhaps they can understand and accept my apologies.

Happy Sunday to You;
This is to let you know that I might not be able to attend the conference or participate in the audit channel press interview due to circumstances beyond my control. I have been stranded for the 4th day running in the Lagos, Nigeria airport. The airline company : Arik airways, has been unable to airlift us due to what they claim to be "technical hitches".
The initial flight time was delayed by 40minutes on Friday (Oct 11), then later by another 2-hours before we were eventually informed we won't fly again till Saturday (Oct 12) and we were un-checked from the departure and lodged in a nearby hotel by the airline but with our luggages still checked-in.
With the initial shift to Saturday there was an outside chance of my participation in the conference since I still had about 7-8 hours between the arrival in JFK, New York on Sunday (Oct 13) and the local flight to New Orleans (booked on priceline & unrefunded-United Airline flight 1178, confirmation: CZCB6Q) same day. We were however awakened to a rude shock on Saturday evening that we (over 210 passengers) would no longer be able to fly on that date. I staged a protest to the office of the airline with my wife who is a solicitor with the conference details, timing & importance, but were authoritatively informed we couldn't be airlifted until Monday midnight (i.e. Tuesday 00.00 hours).
Since my sole aim of being in the US about this time was for the All Star Conference a platform for professional knowledge sharing, networking and contributing to the global advancement of control, risk and governance; I cannot see the plausibility and practicality of being in the States in time before the Conference is over.
I therefore think it expedient to inform you of my plight. We are stranded in the hotel with only a single piece of clothe (since luggages are still checked-in) and the earliest we can hear from the airline management (Arik airways) is Monday Oct 14, 2013; I have decided to seek for cancellation of my attendance of the Conference (a platform I had sincerely looked forward to) and request that the $1,245 be moved or applied to the 2014 GRC conference with ISACA (my primary organization) to enable me cut my losses at the moment (over $275 local flight to New Orleans is lost), seek a legal redress with the airline and request for a refund of the flight cost.
With the justice system in Nigeria, I know this would be a hard and long tussle, I'm prepared to tow this line. Toddlers, infants, old and sick people and US citizens have all been put in this ugly situation.
I know the Conference cancellation request is coming late, I can't help it and only hope that you would see reasons with it and support my quest to learn from the Institute's platform in the future.
To further buttress my assertions, I would be forwarding to you, copies of the original flight tickets (international and US local), boarding pass and stamped passports. We are still kept in the hotel and don't have facility for scanning documents.
Kind regards,
Akinyinka Akinremi (FCA CRISC CISA).
..we expect a bright tomorrow!
