Independence Anniversary :Amaechi Again Lash Out At Police

Governor Chibuike Amaechi of  Rivers State has again lashed out at some of the alleged actions of the Police in the state, describing them as an attempt by the security agency to turn Rivers into a military state.
The governor, who spoke yesterday, at a ceremony at Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt, to mark the 53rd  anniversary of the country’s independence, also urged Rivers people to join forces with the state government to resist the move.
He recalled how the Police dispersed 13,000 newly recruited teachers by the state government at the Liberation Stadium over unfounded excuse that they were hired to protest against the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
It would be recalled that the teachers were invited by the state Ministry of Education to collect their posting letters before they were dispersed by the Police command in the state.
The governor said all steps should be taken to thwart attempts by those plotting to disrupt democratic flow in the state.
Amaechi further assured that his administration would continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to the state, adding that he would not compromise on the standard of education.
“We must come together as a people to chase away those who want to turn Rivers State into a military state.
“This state is identified by an elected government and we must identify with a civilian government,” he said.

  1. Calling 13,000 persons 2 gather at d Liberation Stadium is wrong and should be condermed by all right thinking pple. I was there at d PDP Convention that took d lives of some persons as a result of d Stampede. Sir, pls let d Teachers have their Letters in their respective LGA's or better still Online and stop causing confusion here and there.

  5. The Rivers State Governor Mr Rotimi Amaechi has proven beyound reasonable doubt that he does not want peace by fanning the embers of discord at every turn. I thought that the celebrating the event of Nigeria's'independence should be an opportunity to seek a peaceful resolution to the Rivers state crisis not emphasizing and magnifying it. The truth is that Nigerians are tired with all this rant of Amaechi pitted against GEJ or the Rivers State Police command or New PDP against Old PDP. It is clearly not the way forward and for no matter how long we harp on it, it would'nt create the much elusive jobs, build the deplorable roads, improve the transportation sector and in general improving the standard of governance in Nigeria. I think that Gov Rotimi Amaechi has crossed the rubicon in crying wolf and by so doing has disrespected the Presidency. The only way out for him is to go out of his way to seek a peaceful resolution to the crisis. Let him do his part first and pass the buck to the Presidency. Nigerians are watching.

  7. Don't mind Amechi. He knows what he is doing.whipping up sentiment has always been his antic:have you forgotten how he become governor, without standing for an election.it won't work this time because we are now wiser.why cry wolf where none exiists, just to continue pillaging our common vault while we sympathise with him on self- inflicted injury.
