PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan is expected to pay a two days
visit to Ekiti State on Saturday.
He will also use the opportunity to meet with the 23
governorship aspirants in Ekiti State, during his visit to Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti
State capital, at the weekend.
Nigerian Tribune gathered from
sources that the president was expected to address the controversy surrounding
the mode of arriving at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for next
year’s governorship election in the state.
There had been disagreement over
whether the party should choose its candidate through a consensus arrangement,
according to an advice President Jonathan gave earlier in the year, or through
primary, which had remained the desire of some leaders of the party in the
state.
The disagreement had created tension
among the leaders and members of the PDP in the state, with sources noting that
the tension, said to have created unease among national leaders of the party,
“now needs the attention of the president, who would use the opportunity of his
one-day visit to Ekiti State to address the issue.”
The source hinted that “the president
will stress his stand on unity among the members and leaders of the PDP in
Ekiti State and the fact that no election must divide them.”
