A former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran,
former Senate President, Senator Ame Ebute and former Chairman of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmadu Ali, have been appointed, among others,
to head the governing board of 20 federal government parastatals and agencies.
A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the
Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, yesterday in
Abuja, disclosed that while Adeniran would head the governing board of the West
African Examinations Council (WAEC), Ebute and Ali would chair the boards of
the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and National Universities
Commission (NUC) respectively.
The statement said others appointed to head the boards of
other government parastatals included Maj. General Barau Said (rtd) as Chairman
of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, Dr. Abisola
Clark for the National Ear Hospital, Kaduna, Bala Ka'oje for the Federal
College of Education (Technical), Gusau and Dr. Becky Ketebu-Igwe for the
National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) Abuja.
Anyim equally announced board appointments for National
Obstetrics Fistula Centre, Abakaliki, National Board for Technical Education,
Federal Polytechnic, Bali, Niger State, Federal Polytechnic, Birnin-Kebbi,
Federal Polytechnic, Bali, Taraba State, and Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure.
Others included Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State,
Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, Bayelsa State, National Broadcasting Commission,
Nigerian Press Council, Nigerian Centre for Metallurgical Development,
Teacher's Registration Council and National Council for Arts and Culture.
“Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has approved
the composition and appointments of the chairmen and members of the governing
boards of 20 federal government parastatals and agencies. Membership of each
governing board shall include all the institutional members in accordance with
the enabling law of the parastatal/agency. The dates for the formal
inauguration of the governing boards will be announced in due course by the
supervising authorities and honourable ministers,” Anyim said in the statement.
Similarly, the SGF announced the government’s approval of the re-appointment of the Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu as Director and Chief Executive of The National Teachers Institute Kaduna (NTI) for another term in office, Habu Gumel as Executive Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer of the NationalLottery
Trust Fund for a second and final
tenure of four years and Mrs. Taiwo Theresa Akande as the Rector of Federal
Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti for a second and final tenure.
Similarly, the SGF announced the government’s approval of the re-appointment of the Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu as Director and Chief Executive of The National Teachers Institute Kaduna (NTI) for another term in office, Habu Gumel as Executive Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer of the NationalLottery
