Barely two days after the kidnap of the father of Cross River State’s
deputy governor, Etubom Essien Cobam, the abductors are demanding a whooping
N100 million as they began talks on Saturday, it was learnt.
According to family sources, the deputy governor, Mr Efiok Cobham, was negotiating for an unspecified lower offer, while the kidnappers were said to be unwilling to reduce the amount.
Meanwhile, the family of the abducted person have expressed worry over the failing health condition of the aged man, who is said to be in his 80s.
It was also learnt that the deputy governor’s father was recently released from the hospital in Calabar, on Thursday and kidnapped a few hours Friday morning.
Initially, it was believed that when the bandits struck, an unnamed uncle of the deputy governor was equally abducted. It was, however, confirmed on Sunday, that it was untrue.
