The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday
listed Nicholas Ukachukwu as the candidate for the November 16 Anambra
governorship election.
A statement by the chief press secretary to the national
chairman, Kayode Idowu, explained that Ukachukwu was picked on account of the
latest court judgment delivered by the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, which
declared Ukachukwu the PDP candidate.
The emergence of Ukachukwu runs against the position of the
party which had submitted Tony Nwoye as their candidate.
Meanwhile Sen. Chris Ngige, Chief Willie Maduabuchi Obiano and
Chief Ifeanyi Ubah were also listed as candidates for the All
Progressives Congress, All Progressives Grand Alliance and Labour Party
respectivey.
The commission which stated that a total of 23 political parties
nominated candidates for the governorship and deputy governorship slots however
said only those on the list published by it are allowed to conduct
electioneering campaigns. It added that any violation of this rule amounts to an
electoral offence and security agencies are urged to intervene as such.
The statement by the commission read “in line with the
provisions of Section 31 (3) of the Electoral Act 2010, as amended, the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has today, September 24th,
2013, published the Form CF001 (Personal Particulars of Candidate) of
candidates nominated by political parties for the November 16th governorship
Election in Anambra State. The comprehensive list as signed by the Secretary to
the Commission is attached and has been placed on the Commission’s website.
