Presidential spokesman,Reuben Abati has said that contrary to claims made by Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu. President
Jonathan never promised to only serve one term in office. The Niger state governor had earlier in
an interview asked President Jonathan to keep a promise that he, the
president,
purportedly made to the Northern PDP Governors in 2011.Namely that he, GEJ, in return for the governors’ support, would not run for office again in 2015. Clearing the controversy, Abati took the unprecedented step of revealing what actually transpired during the secret meeting in which his boss was meant to have made the unconstitutional agreement.
According to Abati, the PDP Governors did indeed ask Mr President whether or not he would run again for President in 2015, and the President, in his characteristic humorous nature, assumed that the Governors were joking with him because any sane Governor wouldn’t normally be asking such a silly question in the first place.
In his reply
to what he rightfully believed was a joke, the President jokingly answered the Governors saying “One term is
enough to make it!” But the Governors, according to Abati, took him seriously
and inferred from his return of jest that he had acquiesced to their illegal
and immoral demand for him to unconstitutionally disqualify himself from
running for the office of President of Nigeria on a future date. Concerning
2015, Abati noted that “The focus should be on the best man for the job; not the man who promised not to
do the job."

I don't support goodluck third term agenda. He had not done anything that can be classified as enough 2 d public. But someone like Lamido nd Amechi will do it or Buhari nd oshomole or fashola. The simple truth is d d president is losing supporters and his vice president is not a strong man with large personality. So in d best view 2 save d country d president shld not contest. He will be a hero nd d best president he he listen 2 d popular demand.

ReplyDeleteThe issue on ground here is simple, what does GEJ wantto do for us come 2015 that he has not done all this while,as a political annalist,all GEJ plan has been open to us,pple need to remember what happen when Yar Adua died,constitutionaly,GEJ was soppose to be sworn in as President when the he died, but then, this was not done bcos of what the elder tot might happen, and which is what is happening now,after much consultation with all political leaders after GEJ complete SMY tenure, GEJ was giving another oppurtunity to hold the no-1 in the country,he immediately request for 6yrs single term for presidency as if he's a saint then, he later stop that motion himself becos of his second term agenda which he blev if he win he will then pass the 6yrs single term, and he be the first beneficiary of such if allow in constitution, and he will want to do all things in his ability to make it posible. ReplyDeleteWe the Niger Delta people should not deceive ourselve,if today Nigeria devide,the so called North will survive because their people are not lazy and we have many country without oil and they have developed,so why are we disturbing ourselve.More than three hundred (300)trailers of food stuff enter Lagos state along and all from North, our youth in Niger Delta are lazy. Issue of politics is for politician and it can be solve.. My prayer may God bring peace to Nigeria amen
