Female Cashier Bags 14 Years Jail For Defrauding Company of N3.15m

An Abuja Magistrate Court, yesterday, sentenced a 22-year-old cashier, Mariam Salifu, to 14 years in prison for stealing N3.15 million belonging to her employers.
The convict, residing at Karimo in the FCT, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and theft. She had earlier admitted to absconding with the money
The Magistrate, Hajiya Fati Tafida, sentenced Salifu without an option to pay fine.
She ordered that the convict be imprisoned at the Federal Prisons, Suleija, for 14 years to serve as deterrent to others.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Mr Phillip Appolos, had told the court that one Christopher Nwozor of Life Camp, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on August 19.
He said that the accused, who is a cashier at C.C. Royal Fishing, was told to deposit N3.15 million into the company’s account in Diamond Bank at Wuse Zone 2.
Appolos said that the accused absconded with the money on August 17, to an unknown destination, instead of depositing it.
The prosecutor said that Salifu was subsequently, arrested in Lokoja, following police investigation.

  1. I think our judges are the most backward set of people in Nigeria based on their kind of judgment delivery. How can u send someone who pleaded guilty such a high sentence for less than 5m without an option. What if she denies it and the state resources are used to do more investigations, postpone the evil day. I think our judges are part of the Nigeria problems. At the same Abuja someone stole pensioners fund and was given option of 700k. This is a bad judgment as far as am concerned.
