A
demonstration has broke out in front of the Nigerian High Commission at 295
Metcalfe Street, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Eyewitnesses say the trouble started because the entire staff of
the high commission traveled to Calgary in the Canadian Prairies (about
five and half hours by flight from Ottawa) without anyone in the office to
attend to those who were scheduled to come to the office for consular services.
Some of those who were given appointments to come to the office
today traveled over 800 kilometres to come to Ottawa and were visibly incensed
when they found the offices of the high commission locked on reaching there and a note pasted on the door saying they
would remain closed for the rest of the week.
And so, they started demonstrating.
Neither Ojo Maduekwe, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Canada, nor
other officers of the high commission could be reached for comments.
Ottawa police is helping to bring the situation under control.
