Igbo Traders Are Lawless..APC Spokesman Joe Igbokwe

The spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, has expressed concern that Igbo traders in markets across the state are taking laws into their hands.
He made the observation at the weekend in an interview with Sahara TV. Igbokwe said that reports on the Oladipo Market crisis had been on the desk of Governor Babatunde Fashola for over two years but that the Igbo people in that market had festered the crisis by refusing to listen to or respect the committee set up by the government to look into the matter.
“We need to do something to bring order to our markets in Lagos. Our people are taking laws into their hands. No responsive and responsible government will take the kind of insult and audacity our people are displaying in Lagos. They don’t want to obey constituted authorities. And it is not only in Oladipo (Market).
“I’ve been embarrassed at what is happening in our markets. Nearly all our markets in Lagos are endangered with a deep crisis of leadership,” Igbokwe lamented.
Reacting to a recent deportation of some destitute of Igbo extraction to their home-state by the Lagos government, Igbokwe explained that the Lagos State Government has always been proactive in taking care of its most destitute inhabitants and that it had been ensuring that the impoverished were treated with decency and cleaned up.
However, he defended that the state government has a duty to its residents to ensure that public safety in the commercial metro is maintained at all times.
“What is happening in Lagos concerns security issues and Lagos is just trying to be proactive…we have seen situations where people pretending to be selling oranges turn out to be bomb throwers,” Igbokwe cited.
He expressed displeasure over attempts to politicise the deportation issue, stressing that there was the need to “look at the bigger picture and consider the situation the Lagos State Government was put in, a predicament that somewhat justified the hard decision” to deport

  4. I suggest you all stop being sentimental and stop politicising this matter. As a true son of Igboland living in lagos I can't say igbokwe is lying, though it is embarassing to see igbo's returned to their home states. We truthfully know Fashola doesn't take rash actions cannot just single out the returned igbos without good reason. The returnees should be investigated about their activities in lagos before we start raising dust which might end up stinging our eyes. Majority Igbo traders have learn to change their orientation and respect the law.

    1. Anybody who doesn't respect the law stays in prison, but not to face deportation in his country.

  5. Is this the APC we are clamouring for? Am not supprise! Is good the started jst less than one month old to show us what the are up to,Rochas is on the wrong lane, every true Igbo man should reward the APC come 2015 election, they molested and deported Igbo bizmen and tag them destitudes,if I may ask, where will Fashola deport destitutes of Lagos origin? As a responsible govt every Nigerian is the resposibility of the state govt of the state the find themself.
Igbos should rise against Joe Igbokwe, Fashola,Buhari(boko haram that has killed so many innocent igbos in the north) and ultimately APC which has shown clearly that its anti Igbos

    1. My views might differ, I see no reaSon we should dwell more on this, 2011, the same fashola deported over 140 yorubas back to Ibadan(oyo) some from Osun state. Also it was on record that same fashola has over time deported lots of Hausa extract, y are we making issues out of the ones from the igbo extract? Though hardly to see igbo begars, but before those where done I gues he must have done thorough research about their risks they constitutes to d state. So no big deal if he can do that to yorubas, my people relax and stop making isues out of nothing!

  7. Igbokwe is a disgrace Ąπϑ a traitor. He represents that singular reason why Igbos have been at the receiving end of the shambolic arrangement called Nigeria. Fashola Ąπϑ his APC cohorts should know better being a lawyer, that you don't deport a lawless person in his country, you try him Ąπϑ Ąπϑ put him in jail. I think this is just a poor attempt to coverup the inherent racist attitude of the average yoruba man especially towards the igboman.

  14. Fashola should be called to order for what he did.He is always like that: going after the poor irrespective of the tribe.the reactions of Igbos on the matter has shown that they have so many things bottled up in them. Am afraid for Nigeria. We all think along ethnic line after nearly 100 years. Can we ever be one? Is this a nation or contraption? Why can't we engage good lawyers to take on the governor rather than just tribal vituperations?
