President Goodluck Jonathan may have summoned his cabinet
for an emergency meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) today
barely 48 hours after a similar meeting traditionally held on Wednesdays, took
place as scheduled.
Although the agenda of the meeting is
yet to be known as at press time, a presidency source confirmed that the
meeting has been scheduled.
There were speculations the FEC meeting may be a prelude to the much-awaited cabinet reshuffle that the president has been contemplating for a long time.
There were speculations the FEC meeting may be a prelude to the much-awaited cabinet reshuffle that the president has been contemplating for a long time.
Jonathan, amidst speculations on
ministers to be dropped in a cabinet shake-up had earlier said his decision to
reshuffle his cabinet was not one that would be publicised as he would do
it when and if the need arises and at his own discretion.
This was however dismissed by the source who said it was not unusual for the president to call for an emergency meeting. "There is no need for the ministers to be jittery or the meeting to be hyped as it is not unusual for the president or any organisation to hold emergency meetings to iron out issues," he said.
