CKN Nigeria Celebrates Glo At 10 (Nigerians Air Their Views)

Some people believed the GSM revolution started when Econet switched on the first Gsm call in Nigeria.I disagree. The real gsm revolution in Nigeria took place exactly 10 years today when Nigeria's owned indigenous telecom company fully owned by a full bloodied Nigeria Mike Adenuga Jnr,switched on Globacom in Abuja on 29th August 2003..The reasons were not far fetched. Before the coming of Glo,the two shylock South African  GSM companies MTN and Econet told us it was impossible to have per second billing.Even if you make a second call, you ll be charged full minute.Glo debunked this from day one and within days,MTN and Econet swallowed the humble pies and followed suit. Before Glo,sim cards were sold for thousands of Naira,Glo crashed that, now it costs just N100..Before Glo,there was nothing like free airtime and free midnight calls, well we now know better.MTN and Econet refused to come down on their tariff until Adenuga and his team took the bull by the horn.Glo empowered several Nigerians through its Glo Ambassadors, the others are now trying to do a catch up..Glo has been sponsoring our local leagues etc too.The list is endless..What would the Nigerian gsm industry been without Glo..As Glo turns 10 today, what do you wish Glo,Otunba Adenuga and all his staff?.

  • Remmy Nweke Bros, your wishes for Glo is good but you seem to be distorting history, what happen when they picked their license, they started trial version before publicly announcing, Econet is not South African, except if you mean Southern African. We join every well meaning Nigerians to wish Otunba Mike Adenuga and his team at Glo a long investing life and making Nigerians proud. All the operators are still finding their feets.

  • Blessed L. Aigbedion Good but Nigerians still pay too much for fone calls
  • Uche Nnadozie yes i agree that GLO has its challenges, but i will never fail to acknowledge the positive impact, in fact near revolution that Globacom brought to the Nigerian economy. i am proud of them, and thats why i use their service, even with their sometimes poor connection. perhaps its those that did not have phones in 2001-2003 that would not understand the place of GLO in our lives. bravo, GLO unlimited! but they can do better...
  • Ckn Nigeria Remmy, yap Econet was from Southern Africa..I still remember dem oga from Zimbabwe
  • Joseph Emezuom Nworgu Glo has really done a patriotic service to Nigerians in the GSM arena. That is why no matter how small it is, our own will always serve us better than their own.
  • Yomi Ogunbiyi I expected the FG to have revoked their licenses {Mtn & Econet} for lying to Nigerians because a Nigerian company would have faced a stiffer punishment in their different countries of origin but of course nothing was done to them. That's why I'm celebrating GLO today & it remains my best network. RULE YOUR WORLD...
  • Busola Williams Econet is actually from Zim.
