Some people believed the GSM revolution started when Econet switched on the first Gsm call in Nigeria.I disagree. The real gsm revolution in Nigeria took place exactly 10 years today when Nigeria's owned indigenous telecom company fully owned by a full bloodied Nigeria Mike Adenuga Jnr,switched on Globacom in Abuja on 29th August 2003..The reasons were not far fetched. Before the coming of Glo,the two shylock South African GSM companies MTN and Econet told us it was impossible to have per second billing.Even if you make a second call, you ll be charged full minute.Glo debunked this from day one and within days,MTN and Econet swallowed the humble pies and followed suit. Before Glo,sim cards were sold for thousands of Naira,Glo crashed that, now it costs just N100..Before Glo,there was nothing like free airtime and free midnight calls, well we now know better.MTN and Econet refused to come down on their tariff until Adenuga and his team took the bull by the horn.Glo empowered several Nigerians through its Glo Ambassadors, the others are now trying to do a catch up..Glo has been sponsoring our local leagues etc too.The list is endless..What would the Nigerian gsm industry been without Glo..As Glo turns 10 today, what do you wish Glo,Otunba Adenuga and all his staff?.
