Shock and disbelief characterised the reaction of top
government functionaries, who Wednesday, lost their jobs following the
sudden sack of the political appointees by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo
State.
Although there have been apprehensions over the “rumour”
to dissolve thet state Expanded Executive Council, yet it took many by surprise
yesterday, when it finally took place. Many of the affected appointees had
resumed work as usual without any inkling of their impending sack.
Okorocha had taken the commissioners and other government
appointees by surprise, especially as he had conducted them round the
reconstructed Council Chamber, and even led the prayer session beseeching God
to guide them as they deliberate in the new chamber.
In a statement, signed by the Secretary to the State
Government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Anwuka, directed all the sacked commissioners
to handover all government properties in their possession to the various
permanent secretaries in their ministries.
The statement further directed all political appointees,
Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistant to hand over government
properties in the possessions to the Chief of Staff, Government House, Chief
Jude Ejiogu, noting that all handover formalities should be completed before
the close of work on July 19.
The statement, however, commended them for their tireless
effort in supporting the rescue mission agenda and wished them success in their
future endeavours.
Okorocha had repeatedly mentioned to his appointees to get
set for an imminentdissolution that would lead some of them into the
labour market as their days in Government House were numbered.
