Kumuyi's Son Suspended From Deeper Life Over Wedding

The leadership of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry has suspended the son of the General Superintendent of the church and his wife, John and Love Kumuyi from carrying out any activity in the church over their recent controversial wedding in Jamaica.
John and Love wedded in Jamaica on 15 June, 2013 and thousands of members of the church have reacted sharply while condemning the wedding gown worn by the wife and other aspects of the wedding that were at variance with the church’s standard.
She was decked in attires quite different from the acceptable standard set for Deeper Life members by the church.
Love was arrayed in flowing gown with a veil to match, while lots of people said her hair wasn’t natural and that she applied lipstick as part of the make-up.
Also at issue was the hiring of a Limousine which conveyed the couple to their destination after the wedding. And a huge cake was cut during the wedding contrary to the church’s tradition.
Due to the myriad of controversies generated by the wedding on social media, Facebook, especially by members of Deeper Life, the church decided to place the couple on suspension to give them time to pray and seek forgiveness from God for their action.
On Saturday, at Deeper Life’s monthly miracle and revival programme held at the Deeper Life Conference Centre, DLCC, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, John and Love’s suspension from church work was announced to the over 50,000 Deeper Life faithful at the event by Pastor Philip Oluwi, a key leader in the church.
Oluwi, certainly is acting on the instruction from the General Superintendent of the church, Pastor William Kumuyi, to suspend the couple for the embarrassment they brought upon the church during the wedding, emphasizing that the standard of Deeper Life regarding wedding and moderacy had not changed.
“The church, Deeper Life, remains committed to the biblical practice and standard of almost 40 years Christian dressing and still remains and does not compromise on biblical Christian dressing.
“Hence, deviation warrants the displeasure and frown of God and the leadership of the church. John and Love are now under discipline,” Oluwi announced to the entire congregation, an action that helped to calm the nerves of many Deeper Life faithful.
Also, the couple has apologised to the church for the embarrassing way the wedding was conducted. The letter was read by Oluwi and re-read severally to church members by the Church’s Secretary, Pastor Jerry Asemota.
The letter addressed to the Church Secretary, with the heading: “Letter of Apology,” expressed the deepest regret of the couple for bringing the church into disrepute.
The letter reads: “We unreservedly and wholeheartedly state that we did not intend and do not intend that our act or omissions in any way undermine the great work that God has done through the Deeper Christian Life Ministry through our father in the Lord, the General Superintendent.
“We also use this medium to profusely and sincerely apologise to the General Superintendent (Kumuyi) of the church for the embarrassment and heartache our action has caused him; more so as he had earlier declined to be at the event. We acknowledge that we may have benn distracted by cultural differences as we both have lived outside Nigeria for nearly two decades.”
The letter added: “This notwithstanding, we fully accept that having been nurtured, taught and brought up with the sound teaching of the word of God, we should have been able to draw the line which we failed to do. We have now realised the far reaching effect of our actions and omissions and do plead with the church for forgiveness and also appeal that any action that should be taken be directed at John and Love, as we take this time to prayerfully reflect on our actions.
“We take full responsibility for what has happened and this action should in no way be blamed on the General Superintendent or the leaders of the church in Nigeria, United States, Jamaica, or United Kingdom and beyond.”
However,investigation revealed that John and Love’s wedding was not conducted in a Deeper Life Bible Church. It was also not conducted by pastors from the church as Deeper Life Bible Church in Jamaica has not been licensed by the country’s government to join couples in wedlock, according to the laws of Jamaica.
The wedding was taken to another church where the ministers in the unnamed church conducted the wedding and joined them in holy matrimony.
Besides, Deeper Life leaders that came from Nigeria were said to have disapproved of the earlier gown Love was to wear for the wedding, while another was hurriedly sewed the night before the wedding.

Church leaders were said not to have seen the new dress until the couple was marching into the church and by then, it was too late to take any action as the wedding was not conducted in a Deeper Life church.

I think its high time the leadership of DLC face the reality, christainity has nothing to do with the way you dress, its all about ur heart for God,and the way you carry ursef,Don't wear this, don't wear that is just a church doctrine,it was a total mistake pastor Kumuyi made then,but he has find it difficult to ammend,ok, if the bible say'to them that believe he has made to seat together with him in high places'have you ever see a kind sons and daugthers that wears rag about?, all in a pretence that I don't want pple to know my father has money,note-Pastor Kumuyi church doctrine is misinterpretation of bible,CKN please publicize this.been a chrisatain doesn mean to be poor,that we know the grace that we have in our lord Jesus, that truely he was rich, but made poor,that out of his poverty we might be Rich.huumm.

  5. let every one that has ear hear. i support kumuiyi. remember the bible warns about christian dressing that women should dress indecent

    now lets look at Deutromony 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
    ." In our day there are women that wear trousers and put on shirts, looking like men in appearance. Some argue that the trousers are feminine in design. There is no excuse in that. True children of God know that such are attires of harlots. No child of God who knows the holiness of God and claims to be walking on the narrow way to heaven will put on such attires. All that do so are abomination to God and will never enter into heaven. It is unfortunate that some preachers permit or encourage their members to put on these ungodly clothing. Some are silent about the ungodly outward appearance of their church members. They shall go with their members to hell. There is no respect of persons with God.

  7. The Outward Appearance of a Holy Christian
    1 Peter 1:14-16 "As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to your former lusts in your ignorance:
    But as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."
    God is holy. He demands holiness from those that desire fellowship with Him. God wants His children to be inwardly as well as outwardly holy. This means not only is our inward attitude, but also our outward appearance is important to God. Exodus 20:26 "Neither shall thou go up by steps into My altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered." God does not want our sensitive body parts to be exposed to the view of public eye. Exposing sensitive body parts to the public causes defilement among men and dishonours God. The Bible reveals that some adornment, designs and dressing styles do not belong to God's children but to the ungodly and sinners. Believers are bought with the precious blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. To expose the sensitive parts of our body to the public through rough and improper dressing is to defile the body, the temple of the Holy Spirit. To put on the attire that makes us look like harlots or rascals is to grieve the Holy Spirit and incur His wrath.
    1 Corinthians 3:16, 17 "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are." When God instructed Jacob to go up to Bethel, the place he first met with God, he told his household to cleanse themselves from evil and to change their dressing.

    Genesis 35:1-4. "And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean and change your garments: And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went. Encounter with the holy God must produce not only inward visible change, but also outward visible change. Encounter with the holy God by anyone, male or female, should lead to removal and destruction of ungodly clothes and change of dressing style to conform to His nature of holiness. Right from the Old Testament time God warned His people against make-ups and ungodly attire.

    The Dressing and Comportment of Holy Women
    The Scripture says the following concerning the outward appearance of holy women: 1 Timothy 2: 9 – 10 "In like manner also that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works." 1 Peter 3:2 – 5 "While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning, let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands." The word "gold" in the passages above means jewelry, which is a collective word for earrings, rings, nose rings, chains, necklace, bracelets: items of ornamentation or bodily decoration. Holy women of old time did not adorn themselves with items of beauty and worldliness which were prevalent among the backsliders and ungodly society of their day. They clothed themselves with meekness, quiet spirit, and holiness, which is in the sight of God of great price. They were modest in outward appearance.
    Worldliness to be Avoided in Christian Dressing
    The Bible reveals the worldliness in adornment that characterised the Old Testament time, which has continued to today. The ungodly daughters of Zion borrowed these worldly adornments from the heathen nations around them. God had warned Israel not to learn the ways of the heathen.

Humble yourself and remove them and do not risk your eternal soul by vain arguments. There is no correction of your ways after death. Psalm 50:21, 22 "These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes. Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver." We are living in the New Testament era and God has given to us the full revelation of His word and will. Never take shelter under the teaching or outward appearance of any man or woman of God which does not conform to the standard of God's word. They shall not stand for you, but for themselves before God in that day. As the men are not to put on women clothing so also they are not to do their hair like women. If a man adopts the hairdo of women he is an abomination unto the Lord. The believer's haircut must not be according to the fashion of the world. The woman also must not have haircut like man. The Bible says it is a shame to the woman to be shorn.

    nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering." Christ is the Head of the man and man is the image and glory of God. The man is the head of the woman and the woman is his glory. During worship: prayer, prophesying or preaching, the man should not cover his head. During this formal period Christ is the One in headship and God's glory is to be seen. If a man covers his head at this period it shows he has covered the headship of Christ and the glory of God. During this formal period, man is not in focus, he is not in headship and the glory is not his but God's, hence his headship and glory are to be covered. This is visibly done by the veil on the woman's head. Angels who minister to the saints during worship expect submission to this rule by Christ's followers. Outside this formal period, the wearing of any kind of veil by man is not an offence as long as it befits a believer and does not transgress the law of decency. Similarly, outside this formal period, the woman is not under obligation to be veiled. This is because her long hair "Is a glory to her for her hair is giving her for a covering." Covering her head with a veil is only required during worship, after which she is at liberty to leave her head uncovered by a veil. Her hair could be seen on her to her glory in her normal living. Her hairdo must be decent and befitting to a believer. She must avoid hairdo that changes her hair from the natural to unnatural. That will be lying against the truth and grieving the Holy Spirit. She must not plate gold or items of beauty and fashion into her hair. She should avoid the use of jewellery and the art of dressing for show.

  13. D issue here is of less importance as far as I'm concerned. What we wear is not an issue compared 2 what we do in d secret. A lot of their members are worse than d devil himself. Pst. Kumuyi shouldn't have sent his son abroad bcos d level of immorality there is unimagineable and so what we're hearing is expected. Let's leave dis over righteous thing and move on abeg.

    What then can we say about these: "The kingdom of God is not in meat, drink, dress, hair..... but in Righteousness, Peace, Joy in the Holy Ghost". Romans 14:27.

  17. Honestly I am vexed with this Daniel A person. What is it? how can someone just be quoting the Scriptures out of context? do you think that by wearing raggedy clothes and walking around with a sullen face and looking like something pulled out of an era of famine, you can make heaven? in all of that, it righteousness is still a filthy rag so pls free it. I was born and raised in Deeper Life but I have studied the bible enough for myself to know the difference between church dogma and the doctrine of the bible. how would the lipstick and gown she wore take her to hell now? her gown was so modest, her make up very light. doesn't she deserve to look beautiful on her once in a lifetime day of celebration. does the church think they have done well now by bringing this couple out to the world in this light ebb.
    let's not be like the Pharisees who would leave the more important parts of the law for triflings like this. God bless your union Love and John. May heaven shower it's goodness on you and may the desires of your heart be fulfilled.

  18. Daniel A, u are extremely myopic and self righteousness. We are saved by grace and not by our works. Ur righteousness doesn't come from what u wear. Love's wedding dress is extremely decent.God has given us beauty for ashes, but u and ur fellow members obviously prefer to be clothed in ashes which is pecfectly okay, but don't pull others who want to dress well as there's no crime in it.

  20. My dear you don't need to believe what Daniel wrote till it is to late for you bcos of those perming, weavon, earring etc you adorn yourself with. When you see yourself roast in hellfire and demons preaching and tormenting you in hellfire because of those things you will then know that GOD is interested in our character and also how we dress you wil then know that Daniel is right. there you can't amend again it is everlasting torment . Note that i don't know is not an excuse there , also i don't believe is not an excuse
