Rivers State Governor Rotimi
Amaechi has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of turning the Peoples
Democratic Party into a “one-man show” and of condoning “impunity and
authoritarianism” in an effort to ensure re-election in 2015.
Amaechi, in an interview he granted
the Financial Times of
London, added that the President and his wife, Patience, were bent on removing
him from office.
He traced his travails to a perceived
fear in the Presidency that whoever was in charge of the
Nigeria Governor’s Forum had the capacity to influence the presidential
election in 2015.
The embattled governor said, “There
is this fear in the Presidential Villa that whoever chairs the governors’ forum
will influence the presidential election,” Amaechi told FT in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
In a report posted by FT on Sunday, he alleged that “what
has happened has been engineered to the point where the President and his wife
are trying to remove me from office.”
“We are seeing an absence of law
and order that can breed anarchy. It seems those at Federal Government level
are not interested in democracy, but impunity and authoritarianism. The
President needs to check this,” the governor added.
Amaechi also told the FT that he had not decided on his
plans for 2015. He said that efforts by some in the PDP leadership to claim
that he had lost the governors’ forum vote, despite him obtaining 19 votes to
his challenger’s (Jonah Jang of Plateau State) 16, was a concerning sign ahead
of 2015.
“If they can accept 16 over 19,
people should be worried,” he said.
But spokesman for the President,
Reuben Abati, denied that Jonathan and his wife were in
any way involved in Amaechi’s travails.
“This is all local Rivers
politics,” Abati said. “It’s convenient to drag the President into
this, but it is not true. All these allegations are baseless.”

ReplyDeleteSuddenly the voiceless has grown strong voice!wonders shall never end!the likes of Abdulsalam Abubarka,Ibb,Babangida aliyu, kwankwaso, etc even Tambuwal that condernms a repraisal attack by christain youth without saying a word about the Boko haram that killed thousands of innocent Nigeria now shout from the roof top about the crisis in rivers state! The are regrouping with one strong voice because the our resources is their utmost interest and not our people, they looted our resources for 38yrs and left our people in abject poverty.Jonathan has defeated their first strategy of discrediting and distablising his regime with Boko Haram, their next option/stategy is to use Amaechi and Tambuwal to halt the government to standstill through the national budget and NGF.It pains me when I see Amaechi dinning with these enemies of rivers state and the entire niger delta region.what is their interest in rivers?it may interest u to know that its only oil and its revenue and not the people of Niger delta or rivers in particular,If I may ask what did any of them say or do about the BOKO HARAM that ravaged the country in their region?Amaechis personal and selfish ambition can neva overide the collective interest of the region,We the NIGER DELTA YOUTH VANGUARD(NDYV) want him out by all means possible not Jonathan,ARISE NDYV before the uncircumstized selfish northerners take over of future and the future of our children yet unborn,Amaechi must go!

ReplyDeleteD pple in PDP is begging him 2 join his type in APC and leave them alone but d fool wouldn't listen. Mrs. Judith Amaechi, I hope ur praying 4 ur husband bcos if u don't u'll end up going down with him. Amaechi's heart is very strong bcos he doesn't even have a building in his village and so if they like they should displace Rivers State he has notin 2 loose as long as he becomes a VP no wahala. Un4tunately, it will not work. Mr. President, d bible said "surely they will gather but bcos their gathering is not of God, whoso gather against you will fall 4 ur sake". Let d likes of IBB, Abdulsallam, Buhari, Kwankwaso, etc gather. Be still and know that ur a VICTOR.

ReplyDeletePeople, I think real problem in this country is not even the leaders but the youths of this nation. See all the useless comments. All we need is to clean up the system and get rid of all these thugs and miscreants. Bad roads, poor electricity, no water, no hospitals, abuse of power and the constitution, reckless embezzlement and gross corruption, bad education systems, oil theft on the rise, impunity our daily slogan, killings and blood shed every minute, nepotism, etc all these visible. Yet the youths engage in side taking. What a shame. This menace will live with even the very younger generations yet unborn. We must rise up to defend the future today. It is up to the nigerian populace to stand up today and fight and end this slavery today. Long live Nigeria.
