Members of the House of Representatives Caucus of Ekiti
State, on Tuesday, kicked against the 2014 gubernatorial ambition of its caucus
leader, Honourable Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, saying he was on his own.
The caucus subsequently sacked the
lawmaker as its caucus leader, saying that Honourable Bamidele’s ambition was
against the party’s interest.
However, in a swift reaction, when
contacted, Honourable Bamidele described the action of his colleagues “as
laughable,” saying that, “the matter is beyond them. It lies in the hand of the
national leadership of our party.”
Honourable Bamidele, who declined
further comment on the matter, said that he would not join issues with his
colleagues for any reason.”
The caucus, at a news conference
attended by five other lawmakers from Ekiti State, namely Robinson
Ajiboye, Bamidele Faparusi, Bimbo Daramola, Dr Ifeoluwa Arowosoge and
Honourable Oyetunde Ojo, announced Honourable Ajiboye as its new caucus leader.
Honourable Ajiboye, who addressed the newmen, maintained
that “it naturally follows that since he (Bamidele) does not feel too
comfortable with the party the most honourable thing to do is for him to resign
this lofty position as leader of the caucus, since we cannot be a caucus any
more if the presumed leader of the caucus has a different inclination and
persuasion that runs contrary to the other five members of the caucus.”
