The Kwara State Police Command
yesterday paraded three suspects in connection with the murder of an
Ilorin-based medical practitioner, Dr. Adewunmi Ariyo.
Late Ariyo, 44, was gunned down at
his Basin residence on Thursday April 18, 2013, around 10pm. After killing the
doctor, the gunmen reportedly ransacked his house and carted away his wife’s
car, blackberry phones, and other valuables.
The state Police Public Relations
Officer, Mr. Femi Fabode, who paraded the suspects before journalists, said men
of the command were able to arrest the suspects by tracing one of the stolen
blackberry phones which was recovered from a lady.
He gave names of the arrested
suspects as Adewunmi Kayode, Alias Shanky, 36, Abiodun AbdulMalik Ojulari, 32,
and Akeem Afolabi, 31, whom he said confessed to belonging to a seven-man armed
robbery gang.
According to the police spokesman,
the suspects also confessed that three of them with two other members of the
gang, Olatide Oladapo, a.k.a Dampson and one Seun participated in the robbery
and killing of the deceased. He was killed with a double-barrel pistol, Fabode
added.
Dampson was also said to have been
arrested by the Oyo State Police Command in connection with other armed robbery
cases.
All members of the gang, according to
the police, have been identified as notorious criminals who have been linked to
various crimes in the state, especially car snatching.
Speaking with journalists, the
suspects said they had no intention to kill the medical doctor, saying their
mission was to snatch his car but one of them mistakenly shot him.
Similarly, the police paraded three
suspects who were arrested by military men in Offa for allegedly attacking the
former council chairman of Offa Local Government, Prince Saheed Popoola.
