About 15 suspected
members of the Boko Haram sect have been arrested in Lagos by security agents.
They were arrested
at various parts of the metropolis, with most of them arrested at Ijora Badia
and Kotankowa areas, it was gathered.
The 15 suspects
were among the 1661 people that were arrested by Ops MESA between February and
May in the state, Daily Trust learnt.
The General Officer
Commanding (GOC) 81 Divi-sion of the Nigerian Army, Major General Umahi, while
reviewing the activities of the army in Lagos and Ogun State, stated that the
Joint Military Task Force, Ops MESA, arrested 1361 miscreants within the Lagos
area, while its counterpart attached to the Quick Response Squad, arrested 115
criminals along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
“Those arrested by
the Quick Response Squad include 71 males and 53 females. These criminals are
among those terrorising innocent citizens plying the route,” he added.
He said all the
suspects have since been handed over to the police for further investigation and
prosecution.
General Umahi
maintained that the Quick Response Squad was created by the Chief of Army Staff
to assist the police in patrolling flash points along federal highways.
