Rivers State Jet Cost N7b...Commissioner

Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday said contrary to reports, the state government’s private jet costs $45m (N7.1bn) and not $57 (N9bn).
The governor said this through his Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, in an interview in Port Harcourt.
Amaechi described the allegations that he inflated the cost of the jet by $10m as unfounded and a figment of the imagination of those spreading such false information.
According to him, the allegations were targeted at distracting the state government from its responsibility of developing the state.
“The state government has never announced that the aircraft was purchased for $57m. That statement did not come from us. The aircraft was bought for US$45m. We see all these as a distraction,” Amaechi said.

  1. I believe in the gov Amaechi led government because of its transparency, the governor is a honest and respected man who stands for justice and truth. All the alegations filed against him are nothing but propaganda to undo the governor, whom has made the entire state peaceful and stable in the aspect of security... They should leave the governor and focus on providing basic amenities for the federation in general..

  9. ...It's such a pity that our leaders are self centred, greedy and blind to the plight and state of our economy. Getting a jet is a need not prioritised! Why spend so much on a jet when a massive majority scavenge around you for shelter, food and health. I see this as misplacement of priority, abuse of public funds, dissapointment to your electorates and cancerous to unemployment in the State . BUT wait, is it that our governors and leaders don't actually know what to do to enliven the lives of Nigerians? What about all the promises you made while contesting; have you made do 50% of it? Its obvious you lack the will to effect true change...else you won't have had the conscience to defend 7b as against 9b because I truly see no difference. 7b effectively put to use can reduce unemployment in Rivers State to 10%. It seem you, the President and your 35 friends put together can't feel the untold sufferings of Nigerians. I just wonder how many jets you will buy if you are Mr. President. Mr. Governor AWAKE.God save my dear Nation Nigeria from self-centred Leaders. IJN.AAMEN.

  10. It is disheartning that our so called leaders are so selfish, parochial and myopic. Imagine equiping one of the hospitals in River State with 7 billion naira! Instead, a governor prefers to use that money to acquire a jet so as to show how rich the state is and for easier movement of the state's money abroad! Now, the jet is grounded meaning that River state's 7 billion naira is lying fallow somewhere due to their governor's lack of foresight.
