The Nigerian Security and Civil
Defence Corps is set to bury two officers, who were allegedly killed by
policemen attached to the Inspector General of Police Task force on Oil
Pipeline Vandalism.
Ir was
reported on March 28, 2013, that the
officers, Gabriel Adaji and Innocent Akhigbe, were killed during an altercation
with the policemen in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
Our correspondent, who visited the
state command headquarters of the agency, observed two obituaries of the slain
officers on the notice board.
It was learnt that the two officers
would be buried on Saturday in their respective hometowns.
Adaji’s obituary read that the
33-year-old’s burial would take place at Adaji Ukwujiya Compound, Benue State.
It further stated that he was survived by his mother, sisters and brothers.
44-year-old Akhigbe’s obituary stated
that he would be buried in his family compound located in Uhiele Ekpoma, Edo
State. It added that he was survived by his wife and children.
Colleagues of the deceased, who
gathered around the notice board, had fond memories of the slain officers.
Shortly after the killing of the
officers on March 27, President Goodluck Jonathan ordered the State Security
Service to investigate the incident.
An officer, who spoke with our
correspondent on the condition of anonymity, told PUNCH
Metro that they had been
warned not to talk on the issue as the presidency had promised to make sure
that the culprits were brought to justice.
He said, “The autopsy has been
concluded and we know that it was the police that killed our colleagues. The
bullets extracted from the corpses were said to have emanated from the guns of
policemen so I do not know why they are still investigating.
“Unfortunately, whenever such things
happen, no arrests are made in the name of espirit de corps. The incident was
an eye opener and we can only mourn them since we have been told not to
retaliat
