Kidnapped Lebanese Woman Rescued In Lagos

THE police in Lagos State have rescued a 61-year-old Lebanese business woman, Essa Dannawi, who was, on May 2, kidnapped by a gang of gunmen at her Ebutte Meta home in the state.
Suspects, including a 23-year-old nephew of the kidnapped woman, were arrested by the police, while manhunt had begun for the leader of the gang.
It was gathered that the woman was rescued by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), led by the officer-in-charge, Abba Kyari.
The state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, while speaking on the rescue mission, said no ransom was paid before the Lebanese was released.
He said preliminary investigations by the police pointed accusing fingers at insiders, leading to the arrest of the nephew of the woman, adding that when quizzed, the unnamed nephew confessed to the crime and led detectives to the hideout of the gang at Oyingbo, where more members were arrested and detained.
According to Manko, “the nephew confessed that he had duplicated the key to the victim’s room.
“He gave the key to the gang members, who moved in and picked up the victim without much fuss at her residence.”
