Tee
Mac Omatsola Iseli has faulted the recently held PMAN election that made
Question Mark boss, Gabriel Luciano, the president, describing it as flawed. In
this interview, Tee Mac accuses the Peace Committee which was set up to chart a
way forward for the musicians’ body of usurping powers.
According to him, he remains PMAN’s only president until the
Federal High Court rules otherwise. Excerpts: You were a member of the
Peace Committee which recently inaugurated a new caretaker committee which was
supposed to run the affairs of the union for 18 months before calling for
elections. But now we hear that PMAN has held fresh elections and Gabriel
Luciano is now president.
Has the peace committee decided to hold elections and dump the
earlier road map? I got an SMS from the caretaker committee inviting me for a
meeting on April 27, 2013 and I went to see what was happening. When I got
there I was told that there was going to be an election.
I was shocked and so I addressed the 15 members of the 45-member
caretaker committee and read them the Federal High Court order which states
that parties are hereby ordered to maintain status quo ante bellum on issues
raised by the Plaintiff (PMAN) in its motion exparte. The court order states
that parties and that means PMAN and Murphy cannot hold elections until the
Federal High Court rules.
I told the caretaker committee that they cannot hold an election
and even if they confirm me as interim PMAN President I will not accept. I
walked away. How can a peace committee turn into an interim government and
share positions among themselves? As a stakeholder, what actions have you
taken to restore sanity? The NEC should be dissolved at a special delegates’
conference and a caretaker committee shall be elected to run the association
until the next Delegates’ Conference.
That’s how I was confirmed as PMAN President when Bolaji Rosiji
resigned. We do not have the word ‘Interim Government’ in our constitution
so what we have is an illegal government. As the PMAN president who has not
resigned or impeached, I follow the rule of law and let the court decide. I
will prepare a proper election with accredited delegates to vote in a new PMAN
President.
I want to state here that I do not intend to run again. What
is the way forward? We have a bill in the House of Assembly I want to get
through. Our constitution must be amended for PMAN to join the World Body of
Musician Associations and the word ‘employers’ removed from the name. Then I
will happily hand over to a rightfully elected president who has to be a well
known musician in good standing in our society.
