President Goodluck Jonathan became an Acting President after he took
office during the terminal illness of President Umaru Yar'Adua in January 2010.
Present Cabinet As Constituted
Few days later a federal court empowered Jonathan to
manage state affairs while Yar'Adua received medical treatment in Saudi Arabia, and on 9 February 2010 the Nigerian Senate
confirmed him as Acting President.
On 10 February 2010, Jonathan demoted Minister of Justice Michael Aondoakaa to
Special Duties, replacing him with Prince Adetokunbo Kayode
President Jonathan retained the remaining cabinet of Yar'Adua's cabinet until 16 March 2010, when
he dissolved it in an assertion of his authority over a divided administration
where some members questioned his right to act as President.
On 6 April 2010, Jonathan swore in his new cabinet. Late President
Yar'Adua later died on 5 May 2010, and Jonathan was sworn in as President the
next day.
On July 2011 after he
was sworn in for his first full four year term, President Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan appointed a new set of Ministers to man the affairs of the various Ministries.
This was in line with
his governmen’st transformation agenda.
Two years down the line,
a critical look at the performance of most of his ministers has shown that they
were grossly ill prepared for the task ahead.
A look at each of them
showed that nothing has changed, except for some key Ministries like Finance
headed by Dr Ngozi Oknjo Iweala, Agriculture headed by Prof Akin Adewunmi,Works
(Mike Onolememen),Aviation (Princess Stella Oduah) and to some extent Sports
(Bolaji Abdullahi),other Ministries have
experienced total failure.
The power sector which
was a bit on the rise under Prof Bert Nnaji has collapsed totally.
The education sector
has experienced its worst results in recent years. The mass failure in WAEC and
JAMB goes to show the level of incompetence of those at the helm of the affairs
in that sector.
The Petroleum/Oil
sector headed by Mrs Diezanne Alison Madueke has become the bedrock of
corruption.
On a daily basis, reports
of how billions and trillions of naira were siphoned from NNPC and other key
parastatals under her watch have become the norm. Our refineries are running at low
capacity, new ones are not being built
Unemployment
especially among graduates is on the increase and the Labour Ministry seems not
to have an answer to the problem. This has made many young graudates and unemployed
youths to take to crime and other social vices.
Security remains the
key challenge to the Goodluck admistration. The Boko Haram insurgents in many
parts of the North has practically brought economic activities in these key Northern
States to their knees
Kidnapping and violence
crime are being perpetrated in other parts of the country especially in the
South East, South South and South West.
Shelter and Housing
are not available; health care is a mirage while water is drying up on a daily
basis.
Inflation is hitting
the roof while the gsm services have become so epileptic in the past few
months.
The only people making
progress presently are politicians.
It is my candid
opinion that the President should on his second anniversary celebration (which
comes up in few days time) dissolve his present cabinet as constituted.
He should look beyond
party line just as President Olusegun Obasanjo did in his second term by
bringing in technocrats and patriots who shares his vision for a better Nigeria
as members of the new Federal Executive Council that all Nigerians will be
proud of.
The time for politicking
is over and he has only two years to prove if he should be trusted greater responsibilities
as the leader of the largest black nation in the world.

Unfortunately we live in a country where the thiefs move around as chiefs. They move around without the fear of anyone while the innocent goes home inculcado.. Reshuffle the non functional and in few weeks you will see that probing will begin on how much the fmr ate while in office. Prove yourself strong to Nigerians dear President and tell Nigerians you are not one of the thiefs moving around as chiefs.. God bless ckn
ReplyDeleteI want to commend CKN for this innovative idear for ordinary Nigerians to be able to contribute to issues of National discourse. I am sorry to inform you that the administration of Dr. Gudluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan did not see things as bad as it is in Nigeria of today. In Nigeria when you become a politician and by any means become a winner, they throw out their old friends, phone numbers, abandon old residences and acquire new one's that will be ready to listen and at any cost including but not limited to killing and high level sycophancy. The reason or reason's why he cannot change his cabinet expecially now is the fear of 2015 and his second term ambition. He does not want to incur the wrath of those behind those non performing Ministers and Heads of other Fed. Govt. Parastatals. Well, one thing is certain the day for change is coming sooner than later. God bless Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 11:38 must be one of the very few good pple left in this country,he has said it all,I only hope if his type become a leader he won't disappoint
