Goodluck Orders Release Of Boko Haram Members,While Offensive Is Still On

President Goodluck Jonathan has directed the Defence Headquarters to release some members of the Boko Haram sect in custody in connection with terrorist activities.
Already the directive to release the detainees has been communicated to all the units of the Joint Military Task Force.
Both the Presidency and the Defence Headquarters confirmed this on Tuesday.
The Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, in a statement said, “Consequent upon the directive of the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Defence Headquarters will be releasing from detention a number of persons being held in connection with terrorist activities.
“The move is in furtherance of the Federal Government position in response to requests by the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Reconciliation.”
Olukolade was however silent on the number and the category of terror suspects expected to benefit from the presidential peace overtures but all women in various military formations, especially by the Joint Task Force in the North-East, would be set free.
He explained that the decision to release the terror suspects was part of the President’s response to a request by the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Reconciliation.
He said, “The measure, which is in line with Presidential magnanimity to enhance peace efforts in the country, will result in freedom for suspects including all women under custody.”
“The details of the directive and those to benefit from this gesture have been communicated to field units and the Joint Task Force.
“The beneficiaries will be released to the state governors who will be involved in further rehabilitation before these suspects are released to their respective community leaders/relations.”
When asked whether the Police had received a similar directive, the Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, said, “I am not aware of any such directive.”

  9. I want to believe that the proposed suspects are women and children and probably some teenagers. This decision might be strategic and welcomed. Afterall they should be trained to become good salepersons. Learn trades in shoemaking, farming, ground-nut and other forms of trades that will make them more self sufficient than relying on the govt.
Imagine the plethora of beggers on the streets today; once they are not a leper they probably might be blind or something which shows some form of negligence on the part of the government to provide adequate medical facilities for these people and also give them good orientation for medical wellbeing and all that.
This can be blamed on the government as well as the governors who do not truly have the moral grounds to lead these people. There are problems with the basic necessities of life, food and water must be prayed for before one is fed , watered and clothed.
This is the time for re-oreintation not only on the part of the people but also on the part of the government.
    God help us. 9ja ro'nu.

  11. This jonathan is so confused and incompetent.once u think he is getting things right his next move will redicle the whole effort.why can't this man be strong and be a man for once, this is why this guys will never stop cause the knw he is a weaklin.since u ve decided to be on the offensive side bombad dis guys until the surrender fully before u talk of reconciliation.u can not be on the offensive and still want to reconcile

  12. So jonathan is now making mockry of the JTF abi. They will go out there after enough stress the will capture this guys only for the president to ask them to release them again, next the will start causing problem again and JTF will start all over again.since this man came into power it has been the case of round circle.u don't play politics with issues like this,if he wants to win the votes of northaners by 2015 dis is not the way because most of us are fed up with the activities of boko haram

  19. This is Ʋnbelievable !! Arrant nonsense....If GEJ knows what it means to arrest a terrorist suspect then, he won't be in a hurry to start talking about releasing them . Imagine what this means to our security operatives and the common man ! This is a clear indication of boosting the morale of the BH while discouraging our security operatives from working hard . There's no point given someone freedom who has shade so much blood of the innocent ppl without prosecuting such a person even when same, has been apprehended . In my opinion, its better for the JTF to be withdrawn from where the state of emergency was declared so that they won't make them suffer for nothing . Release them all to go back home and re- strategies so Lmao........
