Ejigbo Local Council Development Area Chairman, Kehinde Bamigbetan has reportedly been
kidnapped by gunmen on his way home on Monday night.
The
abductors according to the Secretary of the LCDA, Mr Remi Gbadegesin have
demanded for 1 million dollars ransom as a condition for the release of the
Chairman alive.
Narrating
the incident to our correspondent, the official who craved anonymity said the
gunmen had waited for the chairman within the precinct of his Ona Iwa Mimo
Street, Ori-Oke, Egbe Bridge house and had opened fire on sighting him.
The incident occurred around 11pm and 12 midnight.
The
official who claimed he had spoken with the driver said: “Upon realising the
danger, the chairman’s driver had turned the car, and tried to escape while the
men came on a hot chase shooting at the vehicle.
“In
the confusion, the chairman’s car hit an electric pole and the driver jumped
out and escaped. The gunmen closed up on the car, brought out the chairman and
bundled him into their car before making good their escape,” he added.
The
official said the management had made an official report to the state governor
Babatunde Fashola, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy
Affairs, the Commissioner of Police and other party leaders on the development.
Meanwhile
workers in the council were seen discussing the development and everywhere had
an eerie air of silence when our correspondent visited the council secretariat.
