The Minister of culture and Tourism,
Chief Edem Duke has ejected the National troop from the National theatre, Iganmu
Lagos .This action was taken last week according to some staff of the parastatal
who spoke with CKN Nigeria. According to them, a purportedly task force set up
by the Ministry came to their office with fully armed policemen and ordered
every member of the National Troop and officials out of their offices which they
have occupied for over twenty years without an excuse .Most of them were not
even allowed to take their belongings .It is yet to be ascertained why the
Minister could give such a directive
against a parastatal under his own ministry. When CKN Nigeria visited the
office last week, the staffs were seen hanging around the National Theatre
since they were not given an alternative place to stay. The National Troop have
been occupying for over 20 years. The arena also serves as a hostel for most of
the troops some of whom are still outside the country (Egypt) on national
engagement.
