Manchester United
secured a 20th top-flight title after Robin van Persie's memorable hat-trick
severely damaged Aston Villa's hopes of staying up.
Van Persie scored three times in 31 first-half minutes at Old
Trafford to send United 16 points clear of rivals Manchester City with four
games left.
Ryan Giggs set up the Dutchman to tap in before Van Persie's
sublime finish after Wayne Rooney's pass made it 2-0.
His close range finish after Giggs's pass sealed an historic
win.

The victory was every bit as emphatic as United's 13th title in
21 Premier League seasons under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Villa, who remain three points above the relegation zone with
four games remaining, were blown away in a one-sided first half as United
showed why they have been the best team in England this season.
After Van Persie's opener after just 83 seconds, Rafael Da Silva
hit the woodwork before Ferguson's side doubled their lead with a late goal of
the season contender.
A delightful 13th-minute pass by Wayne Rooney, playing in a
midfield role, found Van Persie whose amazing left-foot volley from just
outside the box gave Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan no chance.
There was more to come from United and Van Persie.
It was 3-0 after 33 minutes when Giggs, who has now won 13
titles, delivered a pass which allowed Van Persie to prod home.
Villa improved after the break but were denied a consolation
goal when Van Persie headed Andreas Weimann's header off the line.
The final whistle was greeted by scenes of jubilation among
United's players and fans, the only thing missing was the Premier League trophy
itself.
That will be presented at United's final home match of the
season against Swansea on 12 May.
