Gov Imoke Returns After 3 Months

Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke, returned to the country on Friday night after spending over three months in the United States.
The governor returned to the country from London aboard a British Airways flight around 7pm.
He immediately flew to Abuja on a chartered flight and then to the capital of his state, Calabar.
Imoke had left Nigeria on November 19, 2012 for undisclosed reasons, although a statement by his office said he informed the state house of assembly on December 6 that he was proceeding on an accumulated leave outside the country and had handed over to his deputy, Efiok Cobham.
The statement had explained that he proceeded on a two-month vacation, where he underwent some medical tests.
The statement had said his doctors advised him to undergo further evaluation, thus necessitating the transfer of power to his deputy.
Two of Imoke’s aides in the state capital, Calabar, confirmed to our correspondent that he returned on Friday night.
But his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Ita, neither picked his calls nor responded to text messages to his phone.
Online medium, Premium Times, said Imoke’s return was confirmed to it by a former Minister of Information, Mr. John Odey.
“I can confirm that the governor has returned. We are all here waiting to receive him.
“We were in touch with him while he was undergoing treatment. But we are more than excited to have him back,” he said.
