Hon. Solomon Nwoye Akpuofoba (Onoghalu) was born on 18th of January 1931 at
Kafanchan, now Kaduna state, eighty one years ago, into the family of late
Nathaniel Okoye Onuorah Akpuofoba
(Okeosisi) and late Theresa Mgboye Akpuofoba (Okononwazeoyibo) of Uruana,
Otenyi village, Nimo and whose mother
hailed from Great Anigbogu family of Uruogbo village, Enugwu-ukwu both in Njikoka
local govt area in Anambra state
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND; Hon. Solomon N Akpuofoba had
his primary education at missionary school Kafanchan where he obtained his
first school leaving certificate and thereafter proceeded to New bethel missionary school Onitsha, where he obtained
his secondary education and graduated in flying colours. He also undertook
several accounting and management courses overseas that aided his rapid rise in
rank at his places of work
WORKLIFE; Hon. Solomon Akpuofoba, in 1956 thereabout,
worked with UAC Nig ltd in Kano as stock and sales manager, where his honesty,
dexterity and proficiency overwhelmed his employers so much that in so short a
time they had entrusted him with the post of regional manager. For the quest of
job satisfaction, he worked with several companies, where again he proved his
mettle and further to his search for stimulating and challenging job, he joined
IBWA that was much later renamed Afribank, he was with this bank until the
breakout of 1967 civil war. During the war he was shortly conscripted into the
army where he briefly served as bursar. Soon after the war he joined Bank of America Nigeria ltd which was later
renamed Savannah Bank of Nigeria during the indigenization exercise of General
Olusegun Obasanjo. In spite of the stiff completion, nepotism and accompanying
job hazards he was able to rise to the position of operations manager and
finally Onitsha branch manager from where in 1992, he retired but not tired. His
indefatigability was once again proven when he, in order to keep the brain,
body, soul and mind going, took up a job with Africana nig ltd where he worked
till the 1999 elections.
Though Hon Solomon was highly sociable,
amiable, loved by his people and had inherent love for politics but had never
contemplated becoming a politician, but when he got an unprecedented clarion
call by his ward to represent and serve them in 1999 elections into the Local
government, it was like having a date with fate. To him it was unthinkable to
reject the request of his people rather he conjured the Igbo paraphrase “Oku
nna gunyelu nwa ya naka adighi elegbu ya”
then he stood for the election. His victory, performances and achievements in
office are there for posterity.
MARRIED LIFE;
Hon Solomon Akpuofoba, himself a handsome young man wedded beautiful, young
Miss Bridget Ginikannwa Obeleagu at Kafanchan in 1960. He is a complete family
man and did his very best to give his family the best of himself, providing and
nurturing them unflinchingly. In spite of individual differences he has
remained the best dad and the best husband. He had a fulfilled married life as
the marriage was blessed with children.
RELIGIOUS LIFE;
Hon Solomon Akpuofoba having been born into a staunch catholic family, has
since then remained in the faith, brought up his family in the faith and died
in the faith. He has total belief, trust and hope in God the father, God the
son and God the Holy Spirit. He believed so much in the death, the risen and
the coming again of our lord Jesus Christ, he believed unshakably in the
omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence of God and to this extent, he has
always related with all and sundry in truth and has never missed any available
opportunity to encourage and educate us in the ways of the lord as well as
caution us when we are getting it wrong. He has remained so selflessly in and
with the truth so much that he is known to tell it the way it is no matter who
is involved even if it will hurt him! This has earned him friends and foes
alike! But he was never deterred rather he will readily tell you, after all
it’s the way of the Christ’’ Furthermore, as a way of deepening his
relationship with God, he had devoted himself to serving the lord in the church
in various capacities. He was once a member of Saint Vincent Ifiteani parish
pastoral council and at the time of his death the head of JDPC (Justice Development
and peace commission.
HIS LAST DAY ON EARTH; At about 9am on 16th
Nov 2012, he left his compound, hale and hearty, for his daily stroll/
exercise, went straight to the chapel/ sacristy, communed with Christ,
thereafter, proceeded to Oye Nimo. About
thirty minutes later, in what seemed unbelievable and inexplicable, he was
dramatically and hastily rerouted to the Obinwane hospital Nimo, few minutes at the hospital he
was already commending the hospital management amid jokes, then, suddenly, he
relapsed and gone! Gone with the winds! Perhaps, at the sacristy, there was a
dial on his number to come home unblemished! Think about it, isn’t this a
glorious home call/ exit?
SOCIAL LIFE; Hon. Solomon is a wonderful social being,
a jolly good fellow. He lived in peace with his neighbors, families and sundry.
He abhors injustice, believes in equity, fair play and live and let live! He
has a beautiful and spotless mind! He is patient, has great listening ear, unassuming,
unbiased and democratic to the core! He is ever forth coming with the truth
even at the detriment of his comfort! With all his aforementioned qualities, he
has touched lives, settled knotty disputes, comforted the downtrodden and
inherited both friends and foes in the process! You and I are witness to this!
If all of us can emulate him, the world will be a better place!
May the good lord be glorified for the fulfilled life of
Hon Solomon N Akpuofoba (Onoghalu)
