Eldest son of
Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State Aminu Sule Lamido was remanded in prison
custody yesterday by a Federal High Court sitting in Kano over money laundering
allegation.
The accused person
was ordered by Justice Fatun Riman of Court No. 2 to be remanded in prison,
pending the court’s ruling on his bail application.
He was charged
before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to
answer money laundering charges.
Aminu was arrested
in December last year by EFCC operatives at the Malam Aminu Kano International
Airport, while on his way to Cairo over alleged false declaration of $10,000 to
Nigerian Customs officials, instead of $50,000 in his possession.
The accused person,
who had been on administrative bail, was charged with the offence punishable
under Section 2(5) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011. He,
however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court reserved
ruling on the bail application to today.
