Ayomide Omope, an autism sufferer, is
missing. Autism is described as a
mental disorder that affects children, particularly their ability to relate to
other people.
The 19-year-old boy was last seen on
Thursday, January 31, 2013.
Before his disappearance, Ayomide was
living with his parents in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
His father, Ayotunde Omope, told
PUNCH Metro on the telephone on Tuesday that on the fateful day,
Ayomide was supposed to be with his mates at a therapy centre.
He said before his therapist arrived
to take him to the centre, he unlocked the gate of the house and left the
house.
Omope said, “A neighbour that saw him
outside our compound thought he was doing his usual therapy and did not ask him
he was outside the house. About 10 minutes later, his teacher came and noticed
Ayomide was not at home. The teacher informed us and that was how we knew
something was amiss.
“We pasted posters to notify the
public of the incident. Through the posters, someone came to tell us that they
saw him in Ogijo area of Ikorodu, some kilometers away from where we live.
Since that time, all efforts made to find him have proved abortive. We have
also reported the matter at Owutu Police Command, Ikorodu.”
Omope urged anybody with useful
information to report to him on 08034746578, 08033034607 or the nearest police
station.
The police in Owutu confirmed
Ayomide’s disappearance was reported on Tuesday and that he had subsequently
been declared missing.
The police crime diary extract
stated, “Today is Day 6. Ayomide is still missing. He was last seen in Ogijo
near Ikorodu on January 31. He is 19 years old and an autism sufferer – he
cannot speak.
“He was wearing a blue short-sleeved
check shirt, dark blue jeans and white trainers. He was wearing a yellow and
green Ankara apron over his shirt. He is five feet and seven inches tall and a
bit light in complexion.”
