The convocation ceremony of University of Lagos
(Unilag) scheduled to take place on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th
January 2013 has been cancelled through the order of President Goodluck Jonathan.
CKN Nigeria investigation revealed that the
cancellation was as a result of the refusal of the Alumni Association and
Governing Council of the University to effect the name change announced by the
Federal Government last year.
It will be recalled that the President in a nationwide
broadcast last year renamed the institution Moshood Abiola University Lagos (MAULAG)
in honour of the acclaimed winner of the June 1993 Presidential election, Late
MKO Abiola,a move rejected by the School authorities.
The case is pending in court.President Jonathan
insisted that the new certificates to be issued by the University MUST bear the
new name, an order the University authorities have refused to implement. It is
yet to be known when the convocation will take place.

ReplyDeleteThe truth is that thiis president is a total misfit. He really is fooolish
ReplyDeleteI think it is ideal when commending on a social network like dis to know words u use, unaceptable word are not allowed for decency purposes beside Mr president dnt make laws alone, remember is not easy to govern human beings.
DeleteWhy are opreating democracy?pls let's call a spade a spade.
DeleteHonestly,I'm amazed at how people open their mouths to speak ill of their leaders! I hope u're not aspiring to become a leader of any organisation someday? Cos, oh! U're so gonna be a hundred times more FOOLish! We expect our country to be better yet we use our tongues to run down our leaders. Shame on u! I guess u hv no respect for ur father.
ReplyDelete'Hundred times more foolish'is accepting that GEJ is not a 'wise' leader. The country can not be better either if for parochial reasons we defend the 'stupidity' of leaders
Deleteunacceptable actions deserve unacceptable words. I am not concerned whether the university's name is/was changed or not. What worries me is that we have a President that is so docile to the extent that his words aren't respected... he's such a dummy!
ReplyDeleteGEJ should look into pressing matters than concerning himself wt name change! Y won't he be mocked wen he leaves his burning house to chase a rat
ReplyDeleteis this the problem of our president, we r focing a lot of problem and what he his thinkng is name charge of unlag. My gud people their are better thng 4 mr president to do with with his time and if he like to name a sch after abiala he should build 1 university 4 hm and not the sch people hv been going 4 more then 50year. To me i think mr president nd to wake up 4m sleep.
ReplyDeleteWell I can't say much, respect they say is reciprocal,if you can respect Mr president it shows you don't have respect for your father at home.
ReplyDeleteThis is really rubbish, the cancellation of this innocent students convocation, who will become leaders of tomorrow shouldn't be a priority.I would advice Mr.President and whoever is advicing him to settle the boko aram, subsidy issues on ground.am really sorry for u Mr.President cos noting "GOOD" has happened in your tenure.U better call your God and seek for the rite path..
ReplyDeleteWhoever dat pull an old man grey hair wil neva ave 1
ReplyDeleteIt will be a monumental loss for any nation to cancel a convocation of its future leaders all bcos of politics, cheap popularity and vain recognition.
ReplyDeleteJohnathan hasn't done anything meaningful since inception in its so called office.
I suggest he should attend to national issues not unilag change of name.
What has he achieved on fuel subsidy removal, security(boko haram),employment, corruption, education, power e.t.c.
Unilag is unchangeable.
Weakest, most inactive and most confused nigeria president ever.
Unilag should just answer MAULag and let peace reign , don't forget he is a visitor to the University and will be for d next few years
ReplyDeleteOga joe, we understand da scope say alumin woteva. U nd lagosians na cat nd rat till u leave dat seat.
ReplyDeleteUnilag ! What do u guys really want, our president already changed it 2 maulag so what do u want than 2 collect ur certificate and leave, we'r all learned if there is change of govt we all knew, even wn yaradua was president we all knew now is jonathan, why can't us continue jonathan govt 2 yar'adua so I think we shld 4get this issue, the deed as done , we'r now maulag, 4get it.
ReplyDeleteJonathan acts first, then thinks afterwards. That should tell you about his state of mind and capability. I weep for Nigeria
ReplyDeleteIf truly it's bcos of a change of name dt the president postponed the convocation of unilag then truly there is a problem in this country,if the case is in court like they all say then why can't he jt wait reither then keep student dt r abt leavin d school waitin for no gud reason.....abeg Mr president if ur pikin dey dt school u no go do ds kin tin ooooon
ReplyDelete9ja is a democratic state n its sittin on a constitution. If d president does wat u feel is not right take him to court 4 d intapretation of d law. Since dat has bin done, dey suppose to wait for d out come. So GEJ is right to cancel d convoc pending d jugment.
ReplyDeleteHe has no right to cancel it he should go to court to stop d convocation. And besides saying someone is Foolish or an idiot is not always an insult. Often it is a statement of fact.just As in a blind man. A short girl a stupid president. All is based on perception. But its quite honourary to describe the president based on his reactions to issus as Foolish. If one is to be uncharitable one will say he is ......
ReplyDeleteI still wonder why our president insist on this illegal decision, this is to bad because it is letting down our Nigeria Educational System pedigree.
