A
heavy downpour in Nelspruit, South Africa, yesterday could not prevent the
Super Eagles from finetuning their strategy against Stallions of Burkina Faso
in today’s opening Group C game in the ongoing 29th Africa Cup of Nations.
National Mirror gathered that the Eagles had adapted to the
tough schedule while looking forward to the tricky encounter billed for the
Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit.
“We can’t take chances whether it rains or not,” midfielder John
Obi Mikel, said.
“It’s been good since we got here and I think the players are
gradually getting used to being together and I know we will have a beautiful
tournament,” Eagles’ captain, Joseph Yobo, said.
The Eagles’ team held a media parley at the camp later yesterday
and the players were filled with high spirit ahead of the game.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Austin Ejide has returned to full training
after a thigh injury sidelined him for nearly one week.
“I feel real good and ready but I am taking it easy as the
medics have advised,” Ejide who was drilled by goalkeepers’ trainer, Ike
Shorunmu, said.
Shorunmu did not ascertain if Ejide would start against the
Burkinabes but the former Eagles’ goalkeeper assured that the preferred number
one choice would be listed as substitute.
“Austin is returning gradually to his best and we still need to
watch him,” Shorunmu said
