Three days to his 50th birthday, report
reaching CKN Nigeria has it that prolific writer/arts critic and Editor of
Sunday Guardian Jahman Anikulapo has resigned his appointment..His last edited
copy comes out today.
Meanwhile,Friends of the veteran journalist and Sunday Editor at
the Guardian Newspapers, Jahman Anikulapo, under the aegis of The Committee for
Relevant Art, are planning a month-long programme to commemorate his 50th
birthday.
The Committee for Relevant Art is a group of artistes, art
enthusiasts, art promoters and art writers committed to the development of the
Arts in Nigeria and their enabling environment.
The series of events which is also meant to celebrate Jahman’s
contributions and service to the development of the cultural sector in the
country is tagged “3D-Jahman: The Three Dimensions of a Cultural Change Agent –
Artist, Activist and Art Journalist.”
According to a timetable released by the committee, the
programme will kick off on January 13 with a panel conversation on the
interplay between art advocacy, art journalism and art practice and how this
has shaped the evolution of cultural propagation in the last 25 years at
Kongi’s Harvest Gallery in Lagos. Other events for the night are tribute and
reading in honour of Jahman, Songs, theatre skits and performances.
On January 20, his colleagues at the Guardian will host him to
an evening of dining and tributes. Five days later at Quitessence Book and
Artshop, at an event titled Stripped Bare: Jahman Anikulapo, Warts and All,
where friends of the ace editor will take a look at his childhood, career and
have a peek into what he plans to do in future.
The writers, Nkechi Nwosu-Igbo and Toni Kan, are also planning a
collection of poetry on his behalf.
