Gov Shettima Of Borno State |
A former state director of the National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Borno State, Mr Hatsiwa Bwala, was, Friday,
shot dead by unknown gunmen in his home town, Ngwa ward of Hawul Local
Government Area of the state.
The incident believed to have been
carried out by the dreaded Boko Haram sect happened at about 2pm in the
area hitherto unknown for such violence or the activities of the sect.
This has left the people of Hawul
LGA, which is one of the few largely Christian dominated councils of Borno
State bewildered as to what might have actually caused the introduction of
violent killing into their otherwise peaceful domain.
A source in the administration of
Borno State governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, who craved anonymity told
journalists in a text message that the assailants trailed the deceased to his
home town on Friday and shot him dead.
He added that the late Bwala,
before his untimely death, served as the Director of NDLEA in Borno State
during Ali Modu Sheriif’s tenure as governor.
Attempts to get the Borno Police
commissioner, Mr. Yuguda Abdullahi, and the State Police Public Relations
Officer, Gideon Jubrin, on phone for confirmation of the incident was not
successful as at press time as they could not be reached on their mobile telephone
lines.
