Released Mother Of Bayelsa Speaker |
Kidnappers once again struck in
Bayelsa State Wednesday with the abduction of the mother of the Leader of the
state House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Akpe.
The abduction brings to four the parents of public office holders who were
kidnapped in the latest wave of kidnapping in the state.
Recall that penultimate week, the
mother of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Madam Betinnah Benson,
was abducted from her country home in Korokorosei.
Also, the parents of the Chairman of
the Ogbia Local Government Area were abducted last Monday. Their whereabouts
are still unknown.
Mrs. Akpe, aged 59, was reportedly
kidnapped Monday night between 9 and 10pm by five armed gunmen at her residence
at Ebedebiri in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
The gunmen were said to have come
through the river and disappeared through same route.
Eyewitnesses said that the woman was sitting outside her home ostensibly
savouring fresh air when she was grabbed by her captors. There were no gunshots
as the action was done with military precision.
Akpe, who confirmed the incident, said no contact had been established with the kidnappers.
Akpe, who confirmed the incident, said no contact had been established with the kidnappers.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere at the
Assembly yesterday was gloomy as the lawmakers who had earlier resumed for the
day's sitting were forced to postpone in solidarity with their colleague.
Contacted, the state police public
relations officer, Fidelis Odunna (DSP), confirmed the incident.
