Less than five months after the former President of the
Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Joseph Bodunrin Daudu (SAN), named the NBA
secretariat in Abuja after the defeated governorship candidate of the Action
Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the October 20 election in Ondo State, Mr.
Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), the National Executive Committee (NEC) of
association under the presidency of Mr. Okey Wali (SAN) has reversed the
action.
Instead of ‘Oluwarotimi Akeredolu NBA House’, the
secretariat is now ‘NBA House’.
The NBA took the decision at its NEC meeting held in
Asaba, the Delta State capital, following avalanche of petitions against the
Daudu-led administration’s decision to name the secretariat after Akeredolu,
who was the NBA President between 2008 and 2010.
Ms. Nneoma Anieto of the NBA media department who
confirmed the decision to the Nigerian Compass when asked said: “Yes, the NBA
secretariat in Abuja has been renamed from Oluwarotimi Akeredolu NBA House, to
NBA House”.
It was learnt that the decision was taken after
deliberations on the matter, and the NEC resolved that the naming of the house
after Akeredolu was a unilateral decision taken by Daudu without recourse
to NEC.
Consequently, NEC reversed the naming.
The house remains NBA House.
It would be recalled that at the Commissioning of
the renovated NBA secretariat in July this year, many lawyers stayed away from
the event despite the fact that NBA members were in Abuja for the annual NBA
conference, where Wali was elected as Daudu’s successor.
The NBA NEC, at its meeting in Asaba, unanimously accepted
and approved the 10-point agenda of the Okey Wali administration for the
pressure group, and also set up 24 committees to actualise Wali’s 10-point
agenda
