Former National Security Adviser,
Gen. Andrew Azazi, who died in the naval helicopter crash alongside former
Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Yakowa and four others would be given a
state burial.
The Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr.
Seriake Dickson, who made this known in Yenagoa on Wednesday, said the burial
arrangment was designed to accord Azazi his last respect, considering his
achievements for the state and country.
Dickson, in a statement to announce
the burial programme for Azazi, who died in the tragic incident that occured at
Okoroba, Nembe Local Government Area, said the remains of Azazi would be
intered on Saturday.
The statement by Dickson’s Chief
Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the funeral would begin with
a service of songs on Friday at the Peace Park, Yenagoa.
The statement said, “In view of the
late General Azazi ‘s illustrious military career and his remarkable
contributions to Bayelsa State and Nigeria as a whole, his remains will be laid
to rest at the Ijaw National Heroes Park in Yenagoa, the State capital by noon.
“This is to clearly demonstrate our
respect and high regard for General Andrew Azazi as a true hero of the Ijaw
Nation.”
