Los Angeles Bank Robbery Gang Throw Cash To Onlookers To Make Good Their Escape

A high-speed pursuit of bank robbers across Southern California has come to an end with the capture of two men, but not before an undisclosed amount of cash was thrown from the getaway car during the chase.

Police began following a black Volvo SUV carrying four suspects, believed to have carried out an armed robbery at a Bank of America in Santa Clarita around 10am on Wednesday.

The pursuit ran along freeways towards downtown LA until the suspects exited the freeway, when their vehicle became blocked by standstill traffic in south LA and attracted a massive crowd of hundreds of bystanders.

Residents surrounded the getaway car when rumours circulated that the suspects were throwing their loot out the window. As police closed in, people were waving at the suspects and encouraging them to throw more money from the vehicle.

But police managed to thwart any plans the suspects may have had of slipping away in the confusion by keeping onlookers away from the vehicle and arresting the two occupants.

Another two suspects had managed to jump out of the car earlier in the chase, and are still at large. 

No injuries were reported at the robbery.
