The Governor of Plateau State Jona Jang seems to have
had enough of telecom giant MTN and to this extent decided to ban its
activities amongst its aides.
He has therefore given a standing instruction to all
his aides including commissioners to desist from using the network in its daily
activities.
This is coming on the heels of a long lingering
brouhaha between the state government and management of MTN which recently announced
the vandalisation of its facilities in Jos.According to MTN initial press statement,
the state of insecurity in the state has led to the shutdown of its customer care
center in Jos.
But according to CKN Nigeria investigation, this is far
from the truth. The government of the state on reading the MTN statement
decided to set up an independent group to look at MTN allegations..
It was later found out that contrary by the claim by
the telecom company, the problem was an internal conflict between staff of MTN
call centers who were protesting the maltreatment of the owners of the call
centre which was owned by a telecom Chief Executive, Gbenga Adebayo.
The staff (most them casual workers) just like it
happened with Airtel sometime ago decided to go on strike to protest the meager
salaries being paid them.
Rather than putting the situation in proper perspective,
MTN resorted to blackmail.
This action infuriated the state government which has
now placed a ban on any contact with the telecom company starting with direct
staff of the governor.
It’s yet to be seen how the issue will be resolved…CKN
