Cynthia Osokogu's Body Not Displayed At Burial

It was a solemn atmosphere of mourning yesterday at the country home of Major General Frank Osokogu (Rtd), as people from different walks of life converged there for the burial of his daughter, Cynthia Udoka, the 24-year-old postgraduate student, who was murdered by her facebook friends in Lagos. Curiously though the body of the murdered business executive was absent throughout the burial rites conducted in the traditional way.
As early as 8:00am family members, friends and sympathisers including the governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, and his wife, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, civil commissioners, top government functionaries, traditional rulers and chiefs had trooped into the compound of the Osokogus to witness the burial of the late Cynthia at Boji Boji Owa, Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.
Commiserating with the Osokogu’s family, Governor Uduaghan enjoined them to put the death of their daughter behind them and never allow the painful circumstances to weigh them down.
“We are here because of the tragic situation in the sense that we have lost our daughter in circumstances strange to us. Cynthia died in the hands of deadly criminals. She was a promising young girl, intelligent and smart but what happened to Cynthia is what anybody can be a victim of.”
He added that the socio media, expected to advance the world and the society, had been turned by some people to perpetrate criminality and evil. Meanwhile the ceremony which was expected to be the burial of late Cynthia occurred without her corpse.
Her father, General Osokogu, explained that the family was shocked when the news came from the medical team and the police that her body would not be released for burial. The reason given, according to her father, was that some medical checks had not been carried out on the body and that it would be released for burial as soon as those were done.
Senator Okowa, HRM Obi Efezimor, Obi of Owa kingdom condemned the killing of Cynthia describing it as painful. They also heaped curses on her killers saying they (her killers) had murdered sleep and would never know progress and development in their entire lives. According to the duo, the socio media before now used to be pen pals.
The duo, however, regretted that with the advent of the new thread in technology, things had changed with some people using it to commit crime and evil.
They added that the socio media had become too notorious for spreading false information and maligning personalities. “The youths should be cautious of what they do on the socio media and should not trust everybody they meet there,” they enjoined.
In a sermon during the requiem mass of Late Cynthia at the St Dominics Catholic Church, Boji Boji Owa, Agbor, the officiating priest, Rev Fr. Leonard Biachi, blamed the society for the death of Cynthia adding that, “the kind of society we found ourselves is a horrible one. It is not okay with our society that a beautiful, intelligent and promising young girl would be drugged and murdered just like that.”
The priest, however, noted that facebook used to be a decent enterprise but it had been turned to where all kind of evils and crimes are being perpetrated by some. He described the killers of Cynthia as cowards who could not woo any lady even the deceased face to face but hid under the guise of facebook to carry out their immorality.
The priest stressed that everyone has the responsibility to build the society and that the death of Cynthia should not stop the usage of Facebook but must not be used for evil and other social vices.
