Hon.
Farouk Lawan, the suspended Chairman of the House of Representatives Ad Hoc
Committee on the Monitoring of the Fuel Subsidy regime, Hon. Farouk Lawan, was
Tuesday night barred
from
travelling out of the country at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport,
Lagos.
He was said to be on his way to Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser hajj.
The dimunitive lawmaker, who is currently under investigation for collecting $500,000 from the Chairman, Zenon Petroleum & Gas Ltd, Mr. Femi Otedola, to doctor the report of the House ad hoc committee, was about to board an Emirates Airline when he was stopped by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) at the airport and prevented from leaving the country.
It is suspected that Lawan might use the opportunity of the lesser hajj to flee the country to frustrate the ongoing investigation and his possible prosecution for the alleged bribe scandal.
Reports have it that Lawan was very embarrassed when he was informed by the SSS that he would not be allowed to travel. He made spirited efforts and was seen frantically making phone calls to what was believed to be “highly placed people in government” to help him out of his predicament.
