A
three-storey building located at 11 Anikantamo Street, off Adeniji Adele Road,
Lagos, collapsed at about 1.00 p.m on Wednesday, while controversy still
trailed the number of casualty at the time of this report.
Initial
indications were that some occupants had died in the incident, while many were
still believed to be trapped, however, this was rebuffed by the South-West
zonal coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Iyiola
Akande, who declared that only one of the occupants, a woman, was injured,
adding that there were no indication of any trapped person.
Speakingin a telephone chat, Mr Akande said “apart from an
injured woman, who has been taken to a hospital, no other causality figure was
recorded by NEMA. Nobody died in the collapsed building, because we have combed
the rubble to that effect and we have found nothing.”
However,
a witness, Mr Abiodun Adedamola, said the building, believed to be about eight
years old, collapsed without giving any signs, with the possibility of trapping
some of its occupants.
