Fraud and
corruption that has eaten deep into our fabric and way of life is roaring its
ugly head again as some unscrupulous Nigerians who have no direct lineage and
relationship with the victims of the Dana air crash are trooping daily to the
Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja daily to “claim” the corpse of
their “loved” ones..Finding by us has shown that most of the so called
relations are fake individuals who are more interested in the N15m accruable
compensation for each of the victims..This according to sources close to the Lagos
State government is the reason why a comprehensive forensic DNA is been
conducted on the victims, most of whom were burnt beyond recognition.
For the past two
days,CKN Nigeria correspondents has kept vigil at the morgue directly opposite
Conoil Filling Station beside the Ikeja over head bridge.
The morgue which
shares a fence with Area F police station Ikeja has become a beehive of
activities with all manners of people trooping in daily to make enquiries about
the corpses.
Most of the genuine
relatives of the victims expressed their anxiety over the development and call
on the State government to be thorough in their investigation.
According to them,
they won’t mind waiting a little longer to claim the bodies of their relations
if that will help in truly identifying them.
One of the relation
of the deceased who simply gave his name as David,said it’s a shame that people
will try to perpetuate such crime all because of money.
