Nigerians React To Our Apology To Anambra Top Female Politician Mrs Ogugua

Retraction And Apology On Nude Story..Some days back i carried a story on this lady a top politician in Anambra State Hadjia Ogugua on a story making the rounds on her nude picture (which i didnt use)..The story gained ground and was used by several blogs and websites thereafter..My subsequent investigation has revealed the story was a cooked up and picture a clear fotoshop..I therefore want to use this opportunty to apologise to the lady for the wrong impression created and fake story..I also wish to appeal to other blogs like my friends at Eagle Eye Newsagency Scope etc to bring down the page as i did..I am doing this out my clear conscience and to protect the integrity of the profession i practise, not out of any threat whatsoever..I will be more careful next time to fully verify my source(s)..Thanks and God bless..CKN

Any story with that magnitude of consequence especially about a woman should be reviewed and verified with utmost care and professionalism. You have demonstrated a level of professionalism and integrity that is rare in our country.Good job bro.

    • Yinka Rufai Ogbuefi, maybe you should do some deeper fact checking before reproducing. Maybe, since ur posts are considered to be "news", you should also (like journalists are supposed to do) actually seek a response or comment from the subject of your posts before posting.

I think it's called balanced reporting

    • Samuel Abdulazeez have you been offered money? Why are you retracting?

    • Chris, u are always in a hurry to run any dubious story u lay ur hands on. U are lucky the woman asked for a retraction and apology only. She is even a nice person, some would want to shut u up for life by milking u dry in court. Like you said, u will be more CAREFUL next time. If u were running a newspaper and not a facebook media, you would have been sued out of existence long ago

If you want to continue in the line that made you retract and apologise to this woman, we all hope next time will earn you only these as punishment. That is all. Abi wetin hear again?

    • Chris Kehinde Nwandu Ckn Justin Akpovi-Esade atimes i wonder if you are a journalist the way you talk..where did you get your training from..As far as the industry is concerned ,with all sense of humility i don't think we are are par ..Goofing is part of the industry..Several times,The Guardian you once worked with,do tender apologies, infact Thisday has a daily column to retract stories and make corrections.Same with Punch,CNN etc. Please spare me your holier than holy message..I see all the things you write on your wall about Delta State Government and the lies therein..lets not wash our dirty linen outside..I have made my apology,no one is forcing me to do it..You know me too well for that..Its my wall,my blog and my practise..I can do anything within it,am sure i never tagged you. Please lets just respect ourselves..You should know me better than u are portraying here..I least expect u to be saying all these..I guess am getting to know you better.

    • i really must have got u angry to the extent of throwing up credentials. And you think I will be drawn into that. Let others who know us talk about our credentials as journalists. I respect ur sense of humility though. Chris Kehinde Nwandu Ckn, u sometimes wonder if I am a journalist? Do call what u are doing now journalism?

    • Eliashib Ime-James The immediacy of News sometimes makes it absolutely imposibile not to make these mistakes sometimes. Every great newsman at one time goofed and so its not a "crime" to goof sometimes. I also think it is courage to apologies when we erronously report a story. CKN at least I have spent 34 years in the industry to know this, that's apart from my Primary cum secondary school days when I maintain a colume with pop magazine published by christalib. Let's not play the Angel here, we all make same mistake. However, CKN should be more careful as he has promised, cos these politicians can be blood thirsty at times.
